RANE 62 FLEX FX LOOP ISSUE

DJUnknown 5:56 PM - 10 March, 2012
On the 57, I used the flexfx loop to hook up my equalizer and my enhancer this way I got equalized sound before it left the mixer through the main output. Hence, when I recorded in SL, the equalized sound was recorded. I have an Ashly GQX 15 band stereo equalizer so I do not use the 3 band EQ on the mixer. With the 62, I have run into a problem. If I want to place an echo on PGM1 and still have my effects loop engaged on PGM2 for use of my equalizer, then the echo is on both channels, rather than only one the desired PGM1. If I disengage the flexfx on PGM 2, then it doesn't get equalized (sent out through the loop). Please note that I have my EXT Insert button engaged. As a fix I would like to have the option to have the EXT insert button (when enagaged) to allow the loop to be engaged, and hence allow me to add an ECHO to one channeL with out affecting the other and still maintain my equalization on both channels. When I want to add an effect, I want to be able to engage the flexfx button and have that added to the efx loop, meaning the echo on that channel or whatever effect would also, go to the equalizer and get looped back in to the mixer. Can this option I described be implemented? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

This will not work.
The Flex FX ins/outs were designed to add an effects processor.. not really for a mastering rack.
If your wanting the equalizer and enhancer to effect all the audio I would suggest placing it after the main output.
If you then want to record the effected audio you would need to run an output of your eq or enhancer (whichever is last in the chain) back into one of the open analog line inputs on the 62. From there, choose that input in the record drop down area in SSL to capture what is coming in on that input.

The other option may be (I have not tested this so I'm not positive it would work) to run the Aux output of the 62 to the outboard processors and then run the output of the last processor in the chain back into the Aux input. Using the Aux output and input knobs to set the levels.
I'm not sure if this will work as it may just create a big feedback loop.

Try it out though.

Thanks for the response, and actually grasping what I am trying to do (I thought for sure I botched the explanation). The last option seems like a feedback loop, I will try the first suggestion to record the effected audio. I am concerned though the quality might drop significantly.

It doesn't work. The input only allows you to record select one of two of the four inputs. Meaning your choices are either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. If your turntables are already taking up inputs 1 and 3, there is no way to select input 2 or 4 to record. Also, if you use the session in you are getting what's playing plus what was routed out to equalizer all together in the mix. I just want to be able to record the equalized sound in Serato.

How about a built-in equalizer and enhancer in Serato :-)

Bummer.. ya .. I forgot you can't record back into inputs that aren't being used:(

It doesn't look like your going to be able to do what your wanting with just the 62:(

I know this may not be the best solution but you could always do a regular recording without your eq and then load the recording back onto a virtual deck, engage the Flex FX, and re-record the effected audio.

I actually thought about that last night, but I didn't want to say it in case you had any other solutions, LOL. I guess we should push for getting an eq and analyzer/enhancer set up in Serato, could be Rane's that they enable has a plug-in.

*as a plug-in*

i've always recorded dry and added any processing in post.

even though the 62 can't do exactly what you want i highly recommend doing it that way. if you ever want to re-record your mix with different eq or effect settings you have the raw recording to do so with.

Thanks, good point, I'll try it.

What nyce said is definitely a better idea. Always run post-processing after recording.

Thanks for the advice, will definitely try it this way.
