Now that corporate america sees that it can make some money off it, it's gonna get super exploited and played out and turn to shit like hip-hop is now.

Overall sucked, IMO. I was really only concerned with watching Adele and the Foo Fighters, both of which were good, Beach Boys tribute was good.
Nicki was cray, and I'm disappointed with her performance. She's becoming the GaGa of 'hip hop' and going more pop it seems, we don't need two of you.
Taylor Swift is talented no doubt, but she really looked like she was trying to be Pete Townshend on that banjo, and we get it, your wholesome, but you don't need to dress Little House on the Prairie all of the time, especially when you're sitting in the audience with what is most likely a very expensive dress.
Rihanna was Rihanna, need a video edit of that performance, so I can play We Found Love at high schools.
Coldplay was Coldplay, still makes me want to cut myself.
That 'Tribute to Dance Music' or whatever the hell they called it was pretty shitty. I already saw Chris Brown lip sync and dance around earlier, overall could probably have been waaaay more creative with the Foo Fighters, Deadmau5 is still a douche.
Everything else (Bruce, Paul) is what I would expect

Yup. Foo Fighters killed it although Dave looked and performed like he was drunk during the Deadmau5 portion...haha. Also it seemed like Adele was not 100% into it during her performance.

The future is certain, 2 more years of upbeat, then back to 70 bpm.

Sure. Sorry about that.
Corporations have already been exploiting it and making money off of it for awhile. Diplo and those two freaky looking latin dudes on the blackberrry commercials, khia using LMFAO, etc. The list goes on and on.
On that note I hope dubstep is dead. Always hated it.
I did want to mention that i thought it was hilarious that immediately following Dave Grohls semi-rant about making real music that they cut to the Party Rock Anthem music bed. Haha

I dunno if EDM can get much more commercial than it already is lol. Pay attention to commercials, TV show opening credits, etc - "underground sounds" are the background bumpers to everything already.
(showing my age here) I remember in the late 90s when Prodigy, Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim etc. were all blowing up on Alternative Rock stations. Rolling Stone, SPIN, and just about everyone else all predicted that EDM (specifically, "Big Beat" like Fatboy Slim) was going to be the next top40 supergenre and take over the mainstream clubs etc etc.
Shit DID NOT happen, the later 90s and most of the 2000s were all about hip hop and R&B, with a few decent rock songs every year. At least around here, the "ooh rave culture is trendy" balloon popped in the early 2000s and drove fans of this music back underground for many years. There has always still been an EDM scene, but it never took hold of the mainstream as predicted... until the last couple of years.
Now Chris Brown is doing 128bpm tracks, David Guetta is re-hashing chord progressions from classic 90s rave records, and you can hear "oontz oontz" music on most top40 stations in most major markets. I'd say that the mainstream sellout is already in FULL force, it just took 12-13 years longer to hit than the music analysts expected. :)

Funny, I have been thinking the same. I did an all '90s night not too long ago and was thinking about the MASSIVE number of rock tunes that were out (and popular to the masses) back then. After "grunge" died out, shit just got really stale and I haven't been into much of the rock that came out from 2000 on - and I was BIG into rock back in the 90s. I try to listen to the new stuff that comes out, but none of it really does anything for me.
I, for one, would welcome a rock resurgence with some actual good music, lyrics with substance, great chord progressions and solos, etc. Sadly, what it will likely be is more like the Korn/Skrillex hybrid shit that is coming out now...

OH NO, you didn't just say that! Our tastes in rock must differ, but that's OK. I haven't liked really any of the Foo stuff since the first album (but to be fair, I haven't heard all of the new one).
There may be lots of rock technically "out" right now, but you can't deny that it's not like it was in the 90s - when rock/alternative was either on par with or maybe MORE popular than "urban top40". I'm in Seattle too, though, maybe it wasn't the same elsewhere lol.

I am a fan of Dave's work in general but the Foo's latest album was better than their last couple had some great mainstream hits. I will agree that it is not as good as their first album (which was all Dave anyway) but it is enjoyable none the less.
As far as other stuff, I am a fan of a lot of the indie rock stuff and whatever gets peoples heads bobbing. I am not sure if we will ever have another era like the 90s for rock/alternative or even hip hop for that matter but I am always on the lookout for new stuff.

'the death of edm' analysis was pretty short sighted. it would be more like the 'intro of edm to middle america' would be more like it.
edm and dj shows are the direction of music like it or not. it started with hip hop, which essentially, is "electronic music''.
the key here is money. edm is cheaper and easier for any record company to promote and sell than a band. end of story.

well, its not going anywhere. its like when hip hop hit its pop apex with hammer/vanilla ice in hip hop. everyone said it was dead, then within 5 years, it spawned the greatest albums of its history.
there will always be underground and commerical artists. as much as we hate the commercial artists, it makes the overall scene bigger and therefore more likely to be able to support underground artists and venues. yin and yang. with the demise of paying for music, the extra dough for underground artists actually makes a difference to further the cause of non-formulaic, heavily major label promoted acts to stay around.

well, theres some decent hip hop out there. and we all get a case of 'back in the day' syndrome.
i wish black moon, wu tang, beatnuts, and big l were still in rotation, but thats not reality. i think one person said it best when they said if hip hop didnt change, it would turn into jazz, meaning it would be completely irrelevant and formulaic(even though jazz is not formulaic by nature).
i've seen the new underground of edm, and its pretty dope and has nothing to do with the sound of guetta/deadmau5/shm/skrillex.

sorry, but if a venue books a big name dj/producer then they should know what to expect and expect that person to change up their style to satisfy the venue. You don't go to McDonald's and or a Whopper

So if a Hip Hop venue were to book the Foo Fighters then they should be expected to rap?
Quote:
but its a commercial bottle service club. do you think he took the gig for the love of music or money? he knows whats to be expected in those places, and as dj for many years, he should know club owners/mgmt and what they expect or how idiotic they can act. i've heard(personally talked to, i book djs) of much bigger more popular acts getting kicked off in vegas, but they didnt tweet about it. if you play with fire.....So if a Hip Hop venue were to book the Foo Fighters then they should be expected to rap?

And in reality who did this whole thing harm more...the club or the DJ? What to say that a lot of big name EDM DJs are now saying F that place. I don't want to DJ there if I have to play what the management wants.

What makes you think that these established Dj/producers who have been touring for years based on their specific style and sound even have any mainstream garbage on their laptops?
Just like the jazzy Jeff situation, this is all on the venue and promoter for being ignorant of the Djs they book.

when people say things such as the op, what genre of music would you predict would be next as the rising culture or newly most requested?
