What are the best settings for recording in ME. I was thinking about doing a 30 min set and don't want it to render for a week or anything. For the dimension I saw that one of the defaults is 1280x720, not sure if I should go smaller than that. If I do should I keep the scaling on fit or use another setting? Is it better to export move to quicktime or mpeg4 if using the idvd/ to burn the video?

What is your desired final format? DVD, Web?
Plus...
What resolution are your video files?

mostly web, but would like to burn a dvd everyonce in awhile for handing out hard copies of a demo maybe.
Resolution is what smashvideo uses pretty much since majority of my music is from there.

when I record a demo or mix I use a standalone DVD recorder. Then I rip the DVD using mac the ripper and grab the vob file and go from there for web stuff.
But for the demo I just use my duplicator to run copy's.

No point in rendering at a larger size than your video files. If you blow a 480p or 360p file up to 720p or 1080p all you'll do is make the file look a bit crappy.
For DVD:
I would export from ME as a QuickTime file with the animation codec, at highest quality. 640x360.
Keep this in mind for iDVD - "QuickTime Fast Start movies. (Fast Start movies are intended for Internet playback.) When saving a QuickTime movie for use with iDVD, click the Options button in the QuickTime Export dialog and make sure that the “Prepare for Internet Streaming” checkbox is not selected."
Then you can import that into iDVD and fill yer boots.
For the web, you might as well export straight as an h.264 mp4 file, still 640x360. Keep the bitrate high for your reference copy. If you upload to YouTube or Vimeo they will conform the file to their own requirements.

damn man, he was being sarcastic.... you are just so hell bent on tossing ME to the curb. I used to record mixes to DVD, then I got ME. There is no comparison, not even close.
we don't care if Pauly D uses your DVDs in Vegas clubs, the fact is if you used ME to record your video mixes, the quality would be WAAYY better.
Isn't this thread called "recording with ME"? Why are you here telling us about your shitty interlaced DVD recordings using composite video?

Don't feed the troll guys, it's a good topic so lets try and stick to it... ;o)
I haven't burnt a DVD myself for a long time, can anyone chime in on how iDVD deals with 360p widescreen footage? Is it a case of black bars or does it make the footage anamorphic?

no one cares about you or how shite your videos look, Que.
no one cares about how you record and no one asked.
this is an ME recording thread. dvd recording has nothing to do with this.
would you be annoyed if someone continually commented on things that have nothing to do with the subject?
words of advice, and i can not believe i am saying this based on my own history, but the last thing you want is people being continually annoyed or disliking you. you are quickly setting yourself for that.

IBTL although I never did call you a troll, just uninformed...
what I do object to is people giving false information on this forum as fact. Noobs come here to get information, and people like you make sweeping false statements (i.e. a DVD recorder gives a quality product). Then, when experienced and informed users try to correct your fallacies, you get defensive and remind us of how you are a gangbanger. please.

to answer your question Que....
assuming you are using high quality videos (Smash, Xtenda), then these videos are better quality than DVD. Next, you are converting to composite (or s-video), which is another downgrade on quality. Then your recorder is adding and blending frames, and resizing to make it conform to dvd standards.
that's 3 good reasons that your DVD recorder videos at iHOP look like a POS

i swear to god stupes the more you open your mouth the more shit you say that no one gives a fuck about. i mean seriously. no one cares about your dvds, where they are played, what you do, have done, who you are friends or your X Fagbanging.
make threats for real, at least there will be a log of it so you can be busted if something did occur. you are better off selling HDs, but even that was an utter fail since you got caught.
do you wake up each day and think "what stupid shit can i say today?"
