"Radically redesigned" new MacBook Pro models rumored for later in 2012

This doesn't look like such good news for video DJ's with larger libraries who want to keep their computer and storage self-contained.

2012 is turning out to be quite a disruptive year, technically...
benictrs 12:45 PM - 11 February, 2012
if this is true this will pretty much suck :( i"m curently having 2 hdd"s in my macbook pro at the expence of the optical drive i need the hard drive space for more vids and music
DJ DisGrace 12:47 PM - 11 February, 2012
probably mans no firewire either... let's hope thunderbolt makes some progress as a standard connection for external drives
Code:E 7:35 PM - 15 February, 2012
Thunderbolt better become standard fast. and cost on TB HD's needs to come down cause that laice is ridiculous

This piece from Gizmodo is a bit more positive. I really can't image Apple scrimping on the graphics with the macbook pro range.

gizmodo.com

If I'm honest, I hardly ever use the optical drive anymore, I think it's had the same disk in it for the last couple of months, still useful to have once in a while though.

When firewire came out, I thought it was amazing, but with the amount of data we shift about nowadays, it seems painfully slow, I hope thunderbolt is a big improvement.

i dont think any of us use the optical any more. I know im going to remove mine for a second HD
djpuma_gemini 10:08 PM - 15 February, 2012
I highly doubt it. Apple will never get rid of the macbook pro, if they do they'd be stupid to.

The pro is just that a pro, they might have macbook pro type airs, but not just that.

Mine will last for several years so I'm all good if they change.
Code:E 10:21 PM - 15 February, 2012
No the pro as we know it is going away... it will only ever be one kind of Mac Pro. that just apples way of doing things. And i wouldnt doubt that apple is gong to goto all SSD drives and they will all be like the Macbook air drives, with Thunderbolt being so fast and a direct connection to the PCI bus on the mother board TB HD will be just as fast as HD are now.
djpuma_gemini 11:24 PM - 15 February, 2012
I'll wait to see what apple does. I'd be more inclined to believe that they'll have a macbook pro without an OD.

The pro is just that a pro,

My Scratch Live 1.9.2 will last for several years so I'm all good if they change.

Are you sure?

;)

Unless there's a major technological breakthrough with these new Ivy Bridge chips, I don't know how anyone expects an Air-like MacBook Pro to run at the same "Pro" level. There would seem to be a number of battery life and heat issues that need to be addressed

i have been worried that this was the last year for mbp for awhile now and planning on picking one up very soon.
djpuma_gemini 7:28 AM - 16 February, 2012
I doubt they'll only have airs.
I'd rather see them drop mac pros than macbook pros.
djpuma_gemini 7:30 AM - 16 February, 2012
remove optical drive and I'll be happy.

I don't want to pay apples top dollar for a 256GB SSD.
I can almost guarantee they won't just make macbook airs
skinnyguy 7:48 AM - 16 February, 2012
is ME compatible on it?

=P
