lol i've been to many strip clubs, and around here it's pretty much play song till it ends, put in the next one and a bunch of hype man mic talk. i have no idea how the pay is, always been curious about that.

I did it for a few years, really helped me learn "Internal mode" on the strippers. Oh, I also learned to use serato without timecodes as well.
All jokes aside I would usually mix, for practice sake if nothing else. Mic work for every performer and periodic specials/"get out your wallets you cheap bastards" announcements. Also the owner wanted stage dances limited to 2 songs/2minutes per song so I would mix them clean and the dancers appreciated that.

It really depends on the strip club and the type of atmosphere they want there

almost every strip club dj in the country plays songs off of a laptop, ipod or cds with no mixing or skills and most of their job is talking on the mic. In addition, a good quantity of their money comes from the tips the strippers give them, so they usually play what the strippers ask for. it is more like radio djing than the type of djing we do.
The only exception are the big strip clubs in atlanta, miami, etc.. where they will have an actual dj in there on some nights.

Some of the easiest gigs i ever did...Song choice selection is more important than mixing.
Since clients pay the strippers per dance, per song you MUST let the whole song play out.
The girls dont keep track of time, when the song finishes thats the end of the dance unless you pay for another song.

I don't mix, I'm a Serato user normally, but this particular small strip club has VDJ which I just use the auto playlist mode when it's slow, but where I am in particular, most strip clubs here you're expected to cut the song after 3-3.5 minutes. Some places I've seen run 2.5 minutes..

** I mean I don't mix at the strip club. Regular clubs I mix. Thought I'd fix that before I got some misquote...

Depend on the club.. but if u in the south like me u diff gotta work da mic& da more u push a certain stripper the more she tip u at the end of da night & u will need 2 build a realtionship wit the girls to find out what thier fav song are ... when u do a club wide call out for table dances and u got girls who caught customers u have 2 let the whole song play, when youre there long enough u & the girls will start having seccert signals and codes.. also depend on what atmosphere the owner whants sum want hype up club feel cuz they know they stay pack wit spenders others might not they might want the customers sitting down buying drinks.. but one thang for certain a strip club is a good place to try out new sets & new music

I had minimal mic skills (actually was afraid of it) when I started and hardly ever talked on the mic at a regular club. After 2 days a week for 4 months talking between songs now when I'm at a regular club I talk without any problems.. I also used to be bad at saying things other than just this girl to the stage etc now I actually have my own lines and sayings...

Get tipped out by the girls afterwards, bout $20/per girl, so you can make decent money on a good night. Worst part is tracking down the shady ones who try to dip out quick. Makes you feel like a low level pimp ( not in a good way ).

I work at Dejavu for almost 20 years I use Sl and mix emegergancy for my shows it works well for text and droping logos and girls pictures I would say 100%mic skills and if you have any skills mixing in a night club it will step up you game and stand out above all other dj/mc.
If you think its easy, its not it takes a skilled person to work the crowed and deal with Showgirls and talk every 2min for 8 hours.
the benfits are great and with that what happens at the vu stays at the vu....

like someone up top already said, depends on the club……hood strip clubs = all mixtape music with mic work
upscale strip clubs like king of diamonds, stadium, onyx = bottle poppin music so the dj dj's regular to hype the crowd up with alot of mic work calling out those who do and dont got it poppin in their section
everytime i been to a "white" stripclub they played baby got back and me so horny off of a jukebox

lol so true. a stolen line maybe but appropriate for this thread. Sadly i have gone to the dark side of this issue. I've been djing about 15 years & at least ten of them were keeping up with the latest and attending rave parties & club events. I admit id be the first to critique a scdj for an intrusive mc voice & no mixing skills whatsoever. However, these guys/ girls are getting paid. its some new territory for me, something i never really considered doing and its been working out much better than i thought it would. I have found that just about any dj software is adequate for this job (virtual dj, traktor, serrato, ect) This job is all about mic skills, you have to be quick & funny. if your the new player in the club it would be wise to win over the girls pdq....which is the easy part btw. for someone like me with a lot of scripted production in my background, id prefer to have the girls tell me exactly what they want. making a playlist & using the software is the easy part of this job....getting on the mic every 3 minutes or so is what i found to be the real challenge.

One of the thiings when I started here doing off nights (like tonight) at the strip club, I took all the little slips of paper made by dancers and consolidated into one big Excel list on a clipboard to make it easier for all the DJ's here to follow the girls songs. Some dancers really want to dance to specific songs and I try and do that, which has made a lot of friends.. Never have any trouble with getting paid & tipped. They already have the computer & music here, so we just all make our playlists in VDJ and when it's busy we talk constantly and when it's slow we let the music play.
Having club experience reading crowds (especially diverse ones that like rock/country/rap/etc) can make a huge difference in the amount of money the dancers make so they really appreciate (aka tip) those who make them money.
I came in a few times and brought my Serato setup and beatmixed every song. Biggest complaint from dancers... Hard to tell when the song ended which made it hard to figure out how many dances to charge the customers when doing table or private dances. But then again the other DJ uses media player and has 5 second + gaps between some songs of just silence... so to each their own i guess

You don't mix music, you talk A LOT, some places are really strict on banging the chicks, and as always, make sure you take care of the music for the dancers, because that's usually how you're paid...

I've managed strip clubs for over 10 years and started djing 3 years ago. I love it but it's a rough life. Lots of drama from customers and girls but you learn to control what's going on. Finding lots of creative lines to say on the mic it important... "guys its time to reach deep down in your pockets, step up to the stage and give some fives, tens and twenties to the honeys" You have to "find you voice" that perfect range the goes with the mood, its speeds of you voice and timing what part of the song to talk... it's 51% customer, 49% dancer ... you must be able to read crouds...

I was looking around for some rotation software instead of using notepad and I came across a free program called rotationx. I use it for every shift now! It even has a tip tracker built in which helps, not that I should use it but I do. Check it out guys at www.rotationx.com - it works for me.
What does everyone else use for their rotation?
