If you're starting as a scratch DJ I'd throw some Technics or at least turntables in the set ups of consideration. Not trying to start the whole TT debate, just saying it should at the least be one of your possibilities.

Doesn't make sense to buy a DJM T1 if you plan on using Scratch Live (unless you plan on using both Traktor and SL). Also if you bought that mixer you would have no need to purchase Traktor hardware separately. And if you are starting with scratching as your main focus I'd rule out the CDJs totally.

If you want to go the Traktor route then 2 Denon 3700s with a DJM T1 would be fine and pretty cost effective given the recent price drops.

If you want to go the Scratch Live route I'd say 2 3700s with a Rane TTM-56 and a SL2 interface.

However I agree with Nature about the TTs. Im no scratch DJ but it would be the best way to go if that area is where your interest lies. And it would more than likely be cheaper that the Denons, whether 1200s or Stanton STR-150.

From what I've heard the pioneer does not work well with Traktor timecode, meaning you would need the NI card for smooth operation. While the X1600 and X1700 DOES work well with Traktor timecode. However, don't take my word for this but ask around in the NI forums.

If I were to get a new setup with i a limited budget, my first choice would be:
- Technics 1200/1210 (used), SL3 (used), Denon X1600 (used)

If dead set on CD players, then Denon is a good choice IMO, but would probably hold out for the rumored new 3900 players.

Reason for getting SL3 over SL2 is the midi options on the X1600, great for both SP6 sample playuer or the bridge / any other DAW.

(My home setup is 2x1210, 2x CDJ1000 & Rane 68)

The X1600 is a good choice, it's what I use most regularly and solid. It's also Traktor certified, but I know zilch about Traktor so I can't say much else. I think you'd get better use from the 4 channel mixer if you got yourself an SL3 or 4. I use the 4 and love the ability to map SP-6 and Bridge to the other 2 channels, as well as the recording options. I've been really interested in the 3700's, but they don't feel quite right so I never pulled the trigger, sticking with vinyls for now

If you ever want to do clubs 850's or TT 1200's will do. I play on 3700 once in a while at my residency and I like them sometimes and sometimes I don't. they also have 850's and I like those a lot more most of the time. But I love my 1200's ALL the time. I have a 57 and 1200's plus an pio 800. I incorporate basic scrathing in my sets and the CDJ's just don't do it for me, scrathing wise.
