Power Adapter question

DJ Matty Stiles 12:47 PM - 5 February, 2012
If I used the power adapter for my SL3 and not use bus power through the usb... would this free up cpu cycles and let me reduce my latency settings?

Excellent question. I've noticed suggestions to use the power adapter to people on the forum, but I'm skeptical that it would have a major impact dpc latency. That said, having your SL3 plugged in would allow you to play from a traditional source if your computer were to become unavailable.

What buffer setting are you running at?

I was on 0 for about a year then I started having dropouts... but that's a different story altogether.

I'm on 1 now and was thinking maybe I could get it to 0 by saving some energy by using a power adapter

Well, I was asking because if the difference was between, say, a buffer of 15 and a buffer of 2 then that would probably be indicative of something way outside of the scope of having the SL3 external power plugged in.

Are you getting dropouts at 0 that you don't get at 1? I would never fault someone for wanting to tune their system up as best as possible, but for most applications that difference in buffer setting would be unnoticeable.

Yes

But regardless of whether it's unnoticeable. Surely someone on here would be able to inform us THE EXTENT TO WHICH using a power adapter would free up CPU horsepower. Serato staff?

This a good thread I always wondered how low could I go with my sl3 I stayed at 5 with the charger. Now on my 57 I keep it at default

You have a better change of getting a staff response if you post in the Help forums, rather than the DJ forums. :)

While plugging your SL3 in *could* help you to keep your buffer lower, it's much more likely that other factor(s) are in play. If you were to produce a report while running at 0 buffer and getting dropouts, an analysis of that output could prove beneficial.

No point bumping.
