I blame serato for this. Using their eyes and not their ears.

Got any more links? lol
DJ KW 6:25 AM - 5 February, 2012
i really liked how he set up the green lasers in his room to point directly in his eyes, hows he going to look at serato when he's blind lol
Laz219 9:09 AM - 5 February, 2012
Facebook link doesn't work.

I couldn't tell if the first video...is it lit like that so that you don't realise he is in his bedroom?
skinnyguy 12:30 PM - 5 February, 2012
isn't he using torq in the first vid?
Kadilac 5:16 PM - 5 February, 2012
Can we all agree that "This is how we do it" should be retired from our playlists!!?!?
DJDBAG 5:33 PM - 5 February, 2012
I LOVE THIS IS HOW WE DO IT! also just had a bar mitzvah laast night, the 13 year old kid requested early 90's hip hop and "white girl rap" as i like to call it (bust a move, tricky, return of the mack) Kid was Awesome and it was a blast to spin those tunes
DJDBAG 5:35 PM - 5 February, 2012
also i Dont get it,,,,in the second link (that works) hes only got one song on the computer...is he mixing an actual CD in!>??!? like omg?!?!?! how do you do that!?!??!
DJ Stoyvo 5:59 PM - 5 February, 2012
Sorry, one is torq... We can blame maudio too haha...

@DJDBAG - Pay attention to the mixer as he transitions lol
DJ Head 5:59 AM - 6 February, 2012
I posted about this the other day and got hated on. At least I'm not the only one sick of the slew of new "djs" who think mixing by staring at the waveforms is the proper technique. learn to use your headphones.
DJ Kidd Insomnia 3:31 AM - 7 February, 2012
I totally agree with the wave of new dj's out there. Serato has totally changed the game. In one way it has brought about a whole new group of dj's. Many of whom only mix with the waveforms and stare at the screen instead of the reaction of a crowd. Sometimes I feel as though it steals away from the art of djing.....

On the other hand it has asked the good dj's to step up their game. You can't just be good at beatmixing anymore....It is more about song selection, playing the right song at the right time, and reading and being able to adapt to different crowds and people. Real dj's know they music and have found new ways to evolve their art......

Depends on how you look at it......
DJDBAG 4:53 AM - 7 February, 2012
honestly, if the technology is there why not use it?
DJ Kidd Insomnia 5:34 AM - 7 February, 2012
I'm not saying not to use it, though the term "dj" has been expanded to include anyone that can match waveforms on a computer. Are they really dj's? I work in the mobile business and do some club events here and there. In my business I can now teach anyone to beatmatch within a matter of hours.....The learning curve has dramatically changed. Over ten years ago when I learned to mix it took me months to begin understanding beatmatching and it was months after that until I felt confident mixing different genres. Do I think that some of my employees are real dj's? No, but they can be effective using the technology (such as Serato)?

Yes i know this, but why cant You use both?

I can do it with my ears,

But for a quick mix which i know both songs go well together all i am doing is getting it in time, why not take a glance at the screen

you guys act like you have to stare at the screen for 2 minutes to beat match...takes 10 seconds tops, if your using your headphones even less time, leaves plenty of time open to read the crowd find next tune jesus pose etc..
SeriousCyrus 4:47 PM - 7 February, 2012
I'm not even sure your ears really can pick it up quicker than looking at the waveforms, seeing as you can see it's going out of time before it even gets to the play position. Great for fixing double drops, unquantised music. For a double drop you can see it's gonna fail long before you hear it, and with unqantised music you can nudge it in between beats.

I've become a real fan of them.
str8nger 6:42 PM - 7 February, 2012
This whole thing about wave beat matching is getting old, no one gives the shit what the guy is doing behind the laptop People that only care are the other djs hating cuz they ain't up there spinning
the SOUNDINSURGENT 7:20 PM - 7 February, 2012
^^truth^^

Let's move along folks, nothing to see here....
str8nger 7:53 PM - 7 February, 2012
Another thing u can look at wave forms to beat match but it takes skills to drop the song at the right time and find a song that sounds good together
Capo Status 11:59 PM - 7 February, 2012
I love the live remix transition mix he made from humpty to this is how we do it by using the pitch lol

sounded like dude needs to learn keylock. ouch..
DJ Stoyvo 9:18 PM - 8 February, 2012
Please note the he is NOT mixing the tracks humpty to this is how we do it. He just bends the pitch a little to make it sound like he's doing all the work
phonze 9:33 PM - 8 February, 2012
lol I think that was a prerecorded mix and for whatever reason didn't just leave it in internal when he was faking. i also have to question why the hell would he actually post that?
dj skraps 9:42 PM - 8 February, 2012
i admit i look at the screen more than other but thats cuz im really hard of hearing...just became worse over the last 5 years...at home its fine but in a club or bar, louder places and when music is loud as fuk...its hard for me to hear. combination of listening by ear and waveforms help me.

trust me i come from spinning vinyl and learned to beatmatch by ear...waveforms to help alot more now that my hearing is fucked! lol
Audio1 12:13 AM - 9 February, 2012
Mixing using a pre-made mix. I see this often. Its sad and pathetic.

i think dj's need to just dj and stop hating on anything and everything. I have been djing 9 years, I'm about to turn 23 in 2 weeks so all of the "vets" consider me one of these wave form staring screen jockeys but guess what i moved crates of vinyl and so what if i take a glance too long at the screen, being able to beat match is nothing to brag about its a FUNDAMENTAL kind of like wiping your ass. so stop sitting on ur computers talking shit, get out in the clubs and start shaking hands with the people making moves. trust me i have lost 2 residencies to the type of kids in the videos posted and instead of crying about it i got up made some promo gear built a new website and landed a bunch of out of state gigs and a mini tour. No disrespect intended to anyone, but lets be honest with ourselves people like the kid in the video never truly get far let there gimmick play them out.

Peace

I believe "This Is How We Do It" is a Friday night club staple. There are so many ways to play it. Acapella In, Acapella out. I like playing one of Dennis Blaze's tasteful (nm) 2011 refix versions of the track. :)

People dont care.
thats what makes them the "public" and us the "PROFESSIONALS"

WE SHOULD CARE.
Its our craft....
Have some integrity ya'll, take pride. not short cuts.

could u imagine if everyone took the McDonald's approach to being a PAID PROFESSIONAL.

and from 1 dj to another (anyone) you should always be playing like your next boss, or DJ Idle is in the crowd.... as soon as you phone it in, fake the funk you have just become a statistic, you NEVER know who is checking out your set.
DJ Kidd Insomnia 4:04 AM - 16 March, 2012
True....Joshua. Well said.
