So recently I suffered a back injury at my day job. Been gigging with 1200s & vinyl up until 2years ago. Lately even with serato taking the burden of crates away the 2 1200s are catching up with me.

My boy is selling me cdj1000s mk3 at a very nice price. But I'm concerned about one issue I've had in the past... While doing a guest set on some 1000s, serato went ape shit on me. Track wouldn't load, the cursor in Serato kept scrolling tracks none stop. My boy said it was because the control cd was scratched... I'm lost & scared this could happen again. Anyone know what could've caused that?

Luckily when I turned the cdj off & back on I was back in business but it was scary for a second lol

you should really look into a midi controller. Numark Ns6 or the pioneer equivalent. I have the numark ns6 and i love it.

Their cool but I don't like the visual aspects of a controller. Just seem like toys, he'll even the cdj1000s do to a degree but when set up it still has some visual appeal. But I've played with the ns6 it was a cool device.

You can choose to view them how you see fit, but my recommendations are the Numark V7's or a Numark NS6.

True, true Midnight. Another thing is I know 9 times out of 10 cdjs are going to be the norm if 1200s aren't present. So ill try a lot of these other products so I'm familiar with their pros /con but won't invest in them. The NS7 was heavy before I brought a sl3 for the 1st time I spent $1000 on it, didn't care too much for itch. Exchanged it for ssl & get haven't looked back since.

ITCH is not the same product it was back then. It's a whole different animal now.

Think I'll take a trip up to GC & see it in person.

In my experience, Guitar Center's are running the older version of ITCH... Probably best to take your own machine.

It sounds like there was nothing wrong with the CD or the CDJ - more like the control track ended and it went in to track 2 - which is the library control track. You can skip through your library using the jog wheel. (Not required just another feature)

I find it better to burn a new disc with just the control signal on it (Track 01), then use the extra space to add a couple of short mixes of different genres in case shit happens. Then if the laptop dies, you can switch to track 2 and play the mix until you can reboot or switch dj

I also use the extra space on the disc to add some scratch sentences - that way there's no lag from the computer when you want to do some tighter cuts or drop a scratch over a section of a track and not have to load the SSL deck multiple times

You can also use the memory 'Call' buttons on the CDJ to jump to different tracks on the disc in case you run out of Hot Cue's. I use Hot Cue 1 for the Control Signal, Hot Cue 2 for a demo / emergency mix and Hot Cue 3 for a scratch sentence - then the Call buttons to quickly jump around to other places on the disc - If the venue already has a MK3 just take your SD Card with you and your control CD and you're good to go

The other option of course is to learn instant doubles, then you only need to take 1x 1200 with you - but obviously if you're trying to 'keep it real' to the other DJs in the room that wont work =)

yep. you must've played into track 2, which is a library scrolling/track loading timecode. you could do what battlefunk suggested or maybe even switch the cdj into single play mode so it won't go into the next track automatically.

next option would be to go the itch controller route.

or use a denon 6000 with cdjs. map everything to the denon and hopefully you get the cdjs that have a native mode with ssl. of course there's the hack so you can use the denon 6000 platters, but it's really not the same...and with you coming from the 1200 background, the cdjs would be the next best thing.

Ohhhh duh! I didn't know about the track 2 thing. I most def will be DL'ing the control signal as a single track. That's a great idea about adding mixes or drops BattleFunk

okay so you were right. got a chance to slide thru GC after a meeting this morning. personally i dont think i would go the NS6 route (just now my thing) but the V7s & my 57 could be a option one day. being that i got these cdjs coming i should be could they actually weigh less but the appeal of a spinning platter is hard to resist #decisions. the only thing i didnt like about itch from what know is it wont work with my 57
Papa Midnight 5:03 AM - 6 February, 2012
Well, the 57 is designed for SSL. They are entirely separate products. There are some people who hacked together support to play the control signal through ITCH and route it through SSL with the V7s.
djvtyme85 5:58 AM - 6 February, 2012
hacked? wow. i'd probably just do it the easy way & use my 57 as mixer. the effects are controlled by the 7 so no real need to anything else. but as far as what i have...the plan is use the 57 & 1000s for mobiles. keep the 62 i ordered with my 1200s at the crib for the most part, unless im in the mood to show out (doubt it)
