Recording a Long Set with Serato

Hey this is somewhat technical guys...
I was considering recording my 4 hour set Saturday night with Serato via a Rane 57.
I recorded a mix at home last night that was 45 minutes long and it produced an AIFF file that was about 500 MB. So in 4 hours that would make a file that's like what? 2 1/2 gigs?
I have like a 3 year old white macbook. In the past when I recorded a one hour set, when im done recording, I press enter or whatever to end the recording session and my whole laptop freezes up and the sound stops for like 1 second.
Any advice here (besides just not doing it)? I feel like if I try to generate a 2 1/2 gig file my laptop is going to explode and leave a hole in the wall.

i think serato records 2 hour parts, so once you hit 2 hours itl save and start another recording

I use an external portable digital recorder which will solve all your problems. It records until your memory card gets filled up.

That's what I do as well. Not that serato & my computer CAN'T, but recording externally means I'm guaranteed to avoid computer freezes or crashes. Also means I can record the other DJs or record myself doing a vinyl set or using somebody else's stuff.

Mine doesn't like recording long sets at all! Around the 2.5-3 hour mark I get dropouts all over the shop

An SSD may help. The machine is freezing because it is dumping a giant file from memory onto the disk. RAM wont help here, a faster hard drive might.
My 2 Cents.

All those problems are solved by using a pocket digital recorder.
