Right now trying to figure a better way to move music from an external I'm using on an iMac and get it moved to the laptop without manually doing it everytime I need to update with new music. Suggestions?

At the moment I use schronosynch, but it's less than ideal. At least I'm no longer moving over the entire directory all the time and you can save tasks.
everything
.
While this might work at home, if the OP is like me, the iMac holds and manages the music library, but when you want to take the macbook out for a gig, all the music has to be updated on the laptop, you won't be able to share at the gig. Then you might make changes, new cues, update the crates, so when you get back, the library needs to be synched the other way.
Currently I get some problems with my iMac when I sync the music back to the imac, tracks get duplicated in crates for some reason.
That looks pretty good, gonna give that one a go.

i just play off an external and set the iTunes library file to read directly off the external. Just have to remember to launch itTunes first on my laptop everytime I've updated so it will read the changes made from my desktop.

my favorite file backup solution for mac is ChronoSync. it can sync between mac and windows filesytems. i use it to backup my serato library, my itunes library and my music library to a windows network share weekly.
it can perform the following types of operations: backup either direction, sync both directions, blind backup both directions, mirror both directions and bootable both directions.
it also has reporting/error handling, sync triggers, email notifications, can run scripts and a has a rule engine.
i love superduper for complete disk backups but for folder backups ChronoSync can't be beat.

I use an extra folder in my external where I keep everything and copy all of my new stuff there when I get it so I'll know what to copy to my performing laptop later. This helps me keep track of things I need to do without actually having to remember and helps me avoid playing mad scientist with a bunch of freeware.
