Well, are you trying to use another person's template or map it yourself?

Hi, I'm new to SSL and I use Traktor as well. Been using X1 with SSL. I went here to download mappings to use for SSL www.native-instruments.com. I got it to work but I eventually I mapped it myself. It's quite easy to map the X1 in SSL.

Yeah for MACS not for Windows machine though. He only shows you mapping X1 using MIDI PIPE. He doesn't show how to use Bome's MIDI translator for windows.

You don't need Bome's or MIDIPipe anymore to get the LEDs to light up. There are options now in the latest version of the Control Editor, just select "For MIDI Out" for the LED On option for each button. See here... i48.photobucket.com

Ok i have the controller editor.. I how do i use that layout on serato itself?? I tried dragging and dropping and well.. Ive had no luck

Well, you must first select the template you want to use in the Control Editor. Then you must have the XML file for that template and put that in your ~/Music/_Serato_/MIDI/ folder. Then open Scratch Live, go into the setup menu, MIDI tab page, then load the file.

^ do you have the preset in your midi folder under music->serato
I will say this though, last night mid gig my X1 stopped responding in SSL. I could pull up the controller editor and it would respond. I unplugged and replugged and same. I couldn't remap anything either. SSL would not read it?
Konix any ideas.

Mine works with no problems. Just trying to have 2 separate channels to my 2 X1s as it is mirrored controls at the moment and I just want to use the second X1 for the sample player. Still have to try what Konix suggested about changing the channel of the X1 through control editor.

If so, f*cking RESPECT man. You're a true inspiration.
If not, you should get a different name... ;)

Back on topic, you should get MidiMonitor (it's free) and see if the X1 is sending midi messages to the computer at all. I'd say that's the next thing to check.

Hi diplo, yeah it does show in SSL in the MIDI tab in the setup menu as "Traktor Kontrol X1 - 1" and "Traktor Kontrol X1 - 2".

Having the same problem as you guys. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the X1, I've put the XML files in MUSIC>SERTATO>MIDI. The X1 doesn't show as a list of devices under midi once sera to is opened, but sometimes a preset will be listed. Even when I load it though nothing happens outside of the pretty light show when the X1 first gets plugged in. It is responding in the controller editor though. I'd love to use this to quickly use effects instead of the 57SL's midi controls for effects. I'm going crazy here.
This thing is listed as plug and play even for Serato. This is very far from plug and play!

Last night my X1 stopped working mid-set again. It would respond in the controller editor, but not in SSL.
Any ideas what causes this?
Gonna try a new cable.
Gonna try not using midi-mipe.

So I fixed this last night by uninstalling all of Traktor and reinstalling everything with the T2Scratch disk, not the disc that came with the X1. Got it to work after all that. Can you get these mappings to work without Midipipe? Haven't tried yet. I'll mess around before the club tonight.

X1 is plug & play for Trakktor NOT Scratch Live. I'm still waiting for a decent midi-controller for Scratch live. The Dennon HC1000 isn't gonna cut it. The dicers seem ok but i'd like for features instead of just 5 buttons.
They should make an X1, or something like it, for Scratch. Plug & Play with no BullShit

its pretty much plug and play, just set the buttons in the midi window. the loops and scroll are already set up.

It's pretty much plug and play for Scratch Live too. You do have to do some mapping, but you can map the whole thing out for Scratch live in about 30 minutes. There's no need to use Midipipe or anything except the controller editor and the Scratch Live Midi panel. Once you map it out that's all, it's plug and play every time after that.

I have a quick question here, How do you map the two (2) browser knobs on the kontrol x1 to browse through your track. When one is mapped and it works fine but then when the second one is mapped, the first one that was mapped stops working.
TommyC

You can write the code into the XML file that lives in the Midi Folder. You can open the XML file in a text editor and add the code. I am sorry that I do not have the X1 in front of me, or I would send you the line of code that needs to be added.
TommyC

<Control name="Scroll Library Knob" channel="1" event_type="Control Change" data_type="Relative 2's Complement" control="17" />
Open the xml file in word pad if you are on a PC or in text editor if your are on a mac, and paste the above code into the file. Then save the file! Make sure it saves as an .xml file and not a .txt
This should allow for the second knob to also browse the tracks. Make sure that before you add this code, that you do have the first knob mapped to scroll your tracks. You can do that by using the GUI midi mapping interface in Serato. I hope that this works for you... Again I do not have the X1 in front of my, so this is strictly from memory.

You can re-do your MIDI mapping. I suggest to watch the vids Konix has made about them on youtube (Seratotutor). Watch it and you will be able to get your MIDI mapping right, I did it that way and I can use both knobs to scroll through my library and crates and load songs as well.

You have to set both knobs to the same CC# in the Controller Editor software in order to scroll with both knobs.
TommyC
1:04 PM - 3 March, 2012
The CC# is the value that the button or knob puts out when pressed or turned. You should check out Konix's videos on YouTube! They are definitely helpful and very well done.

^That's what I've said initially: watch the vids Konix (Seratotutor) have made on Youtube.
I was able to do the MIDI mapping for my X1 after watching those vids several times. Just play around, you can do and re-do a MIDI mapping again, again and again. Once my X1 was working I forgot about most of the stuff and before I tell you something wrong I give you the advice to watch the video tutorials.

you may need to install a driver. have you installed the Controller Editor from NI on the WIN7 machine?

I think i read some where in the forum that you with the new X1 software it should light up. Check the Konix tutorials. i used to worry about the lights coming on/off, not so much anymore.
