I still use mp3s but i dont know why as oggs are better qualiy . Thing is mp3 are easy to organise and do id3 tags.

so are .ogg, there just smaller but not the standard ATM. OGG IMO are just as nice, it's great SSL supports them, it's just if you want to convert your existing mp3's to ogg you won't notice much differance other then some saved space. If you are converting your own cd's, and you can't tell the differance, why not use ogg? :) there is a nice program called tag&rename, it does all types of files(including ogg).

Do not... repeat, DO NOT convert your .MP3 files to .OGG! It will not sound better, it will only be a bigger file size. Make your .OGG files from an uncompressed audio source (.WAV/.AIFF).

Well it might result in a lower sized file, but as DBB says, it will not sound better, no, it will sound worse, cause you are reencoding the file.

so if you're recording vinyl to your computer, is it really better to save it (the first time, not re-encoding it later) as an .ogg?
Thanks,

It's best to save it as either a wave/aiff uncompressed file, then make subsequent compressed versions from that.

But once I've made a compressed version from that wave file, the wave can be erased, right? (sorry so dense)

well it's up to you, but I would save all the uncompressed versions on to dvd so I always had the option of converting them to whatever new fabulous format came along.
