New Recording Option

Although it only uses component it is truly amazing for what you can use it for. I haven’t as of yet placed a hard drive in it and only use a 16gig usb which records up to an hour plus of HD recordings. I used it for video game clips but now I use it for everything to include recording my mixes and tv shows… too good to not pass alone

Hi Funkytownstopsix,
How exactly do you record your mixes off your laptop? I'm guessing you use your sound off your mixer or Sl box but how do you get your video feed?

no HD input, only 1080i support, requires an HDD and it costs $125...fail

if you want to capture you should be rocking with the BlackMagic Intensity.

sup nyce.... as always I love your expert opinion you always share good info. Let me say this just because it does not use an hdmi does not mean it won't record in hd. . Also you don't have to have a hard drive you can use a usb drive. Also as I said the 16gig usb stick got over an 1hour and some or recording. It's portable and does not need a computer at all it overlays on your screen for play back and can record on the fly just press record. The main reason I purchased the unit was to record my p3 gaming. I got it for like 133 on overstock and to be honest it's really easy for me to take recording off of tv and place them on my computer. For those who have uverse you understand where I coming from. Just letting everyone know that there are a few options and things out there. Glad to see blackmagic is coming down on their pricing.

@ Dj Fuentes.. audio from mixer the 57.. you can also purchase Mix Emergency you can record strait from your laptop... audio will always come from your mixer output when recording.

As far as the Avery Recorder,,,, because it does not need a laptop or cpu it was a must have for me. You can transfer the recording from the drive to the usb as well, recording to the usb is best from the recorder to my computer just that easy. Makes easy for me to back up my favorite tv shows so I can place them on my media sever so I can stream them all over the house. Only thing I don't like about it is that it saves the files in AVI so sometimes I will need to convert to MP4 and they have a converter you can download on the site if you need it. I wish it had HDMI and Component yet I am sure it would cost more. A little info on HDMI and Component....

HDMI cable delivers the signal in a digital format, much the same way that a file is delivered from one computer to another along a network, while Component Video is an analog format, delivering the signal not as a bitstream, but as a set of continuously varying voltages representing (albeit indirectly, as we'll get to in a moment) the red, green and blue components of the signal.

Lot's of people get hung up on HDMI is better then Component because these days digital(HDMI) is always better then analog (Component)but it depends upon your source and display devices, and there's no good way, in principle, to say in advance whether the digital or the analog connection will render a better picture. You may even find that your DVD player looks better through its HDMI output, while your satellite or cable box looks better through its component output, on the same display. In this case, there's no real substitute for simply plugging it in and giving it a try both ways even then it's all dependant sourse becasue if you change the source you may have a diffrent outcome.....

That's what I was wondering, how are you connecting this to you laptop? I only have hdmi or VGA which means in either case I'll have to buy another piece of hardware to connect it. I've just been turned onto FRAPS and it's pretty good but I'd rather not have another program running on my machine. Thanks for the info!

well you would need a hdmi to component converter box to make it happen(digtal to analog) but I already had one before I purchased the box hell I got it a year ago. Now this is where DJ Nyce's recomendation might be a better option for you for you hdmi by the time you spend the money you could purchased the blackmajic yet you would need a cpu to do the recording. So it will boil down to what you want. i think you can get the converter box for like 40 or 50 bucks plus new and on ebay no telling.
