question about smash vidz

dj joey shull 11:44 PM - 28 December, 2011
i'm thinking of signing up and all the positive comments make me think it's a good idea, but i have a question for members?
are the selections mostly r&b/hip hop or club/electronic? i don't use r&b or hip hop and want to make sure they would be for me. i'm a member of dtvideo and like them, just looking for something extra as well.
all comments appreciated.
thanks & happy new year
joey
DjBoozie 1:21 AM - 29 December, 2011
well I would say depending on what your looking for... Smash Vidz has a great selection of different Genre of music and I would say they might be the 1st to get them out for download IMO
DJMark 1:45 AM - 29 December, 2011
Smashvidz leans toward R&B/hiphop but has a wide variety overall.

They'd complement DT very well.
dj joey shull 1:49 AM - 29 December, 2011
cool thank you
djpuma_gemini 2:40 AM - 29 December, 2011
supposedly they will get more pop next year
Not sure what you are looking for.
They do have dubstep it that's what you want.
dj joey shull 3:09 AM - 29 December, 2011
i play more like nadia ali, swedish house mafia, guetta, avicii and the like. i do play top 40 mixes with uptempo mixes.
djpuma_gemini 3:25 AM - 29 December, 2011
They have those things, but you'll get more of it from DTV, which you already have.
dj joey shull 3:48 AM - 29 December, 2011
thanks. that's what i was wondering.
Taipanic 9:08 PM - 5 January, 2012
I currently use both DTV & Smashvidz - I think it is a good combination. Besides, you don't know what you'll be playing years from now and will probably wish you had all of those hippety hop videos.
All I need now is to close on my CA address to enable my Extendamix subscription...
djpuma_gemini 9:10 PM - 5 January, 2012
I do know that 3/4 of the crap we're playing now, we won't be in a few years.

....and that's being generous. Even though it has become easier to find music these days, there will always be certain tracks that will set you apart from other DJs if you have them. Quality videos will always be harder to find than audio, and one day people will be blown away with your old-school video mix because you've got Flo-Rida on video Man!, LOL...
djpuma_gemini 10:03 PM - 5 January, 2012
well certain videos you keep, but I doubt I'll keep every bruno mars, t.i., lil wayne, b.o.b., etc video that they've made.
djpuma_gemini 10:03 PM - 5 January, 2012
If I don't play it now I won't play it in 5 years.

I need to think like this but .....Im a video hoarder lol I just recently went through my vids and audio and deleted all(well most )of my dups but even if the track was garbage and I knew under no circumstances would I ever really play it I kept one copy "just in case" lol
djpuma_gemini 10:55 PM - 5 January, 2012
I go through monthly and in fact, I'm going to go through my "current heaters" crate and either delete the vids or move them to their genre folders.

My current heaters looks like current shit with all those videos in there.

I used to be like that, keep everything.
Now I'll delete it if I haven't played it in a few months, or if I never have.
djpuma_gemini 10:56 PM - 5 January, 2012
delete or at least move to the drobo, but that's only for certain vids
Taipanic 7:05 PM - 6 January, 2012

Don't be so sure.... Through the 90's I played mostly Top40/Techno/Breakbeat/Booty Music, almost no Hip-Hop in the clubs I played. I play a fair amount of Old School Hip-Hop these days of course... It's hard to pick out all of the songs that will still be hot a decade from now - they all weren't necessarily big hits when they came out but have staying power.
My opinion; drivespace is cheap - I'd rather keep everything I get so I know I have it for later. 6 Terrabytes of music & video... and still growing, along with 10 trunks of vinyl from the 70's - 00's. I have so much cool stuff in vinyl I'd love to use, just can never find the time to rip it, tag it, etc...
djpuma_gemini 7:17 PM - 6 January, 2012
I meant if it's a garbage filler track that video pools or artists put out.

Xtendamix is the bomb. There quality is similar to smashvidz..let me know if u can search now for intro's/clean/dirty/blenx/blenx-in on smashvidz...till then I won't be going back.

^ Yup xtendamix is blowing smashvidz out the water with their new download manager/interface. However one thing xtendamix needs are shorter video edits thats def lacking.

This is a reason to not get content? BTW new search feature will allow you to search with this method (which hasn't really been requested, just worked out that way) But you would totally discontinue a service because you can't search for a "Blenx" or "Snipz" ? Mind boggling to me, I would think once you were caught up you would just check weekly for new releases see if a button exists and get it. But again not many people just download a "snipz" most download the "Xtendz" , "Snipz", "Blenx" etc. Always open to suggestions though.
DJLRock 7:57 AM - 19 January, 2012
I have both smash and xtend.... quality is better on smash and i dont really like the new interface on xtend but their content is good

Exactly.... I just dont understand why somebody would drop the #1 service out there because he cant search for blenx and snips and stick with a service that provides neither....

dont get me wrong I think xtenda is a really dope service but smash's quality is just that little bit better,..even mark knows and agrees with this.

If I got the same vid from smash and xtenda I would keep the smash and delete the xtenda, although some could get by using one service or another depending on the gigs you do.Mobile guys would probably be better off with xtenda as thier content is more varried rock/country/hip Hop/reggae ect... where as if you were a club dj smash would be the way to go hip hop/reggae/edm/remixes/mash ups ect...
djnak 7:05 PM - 19 January, 2012
oh...forgot to add subscribing to both will fill the crates well when you do varrying gigs club/lounge/happy hours/mobiles.

i love when people talk in absolutes.... like they are the be all end all...

having said that.

my favorite first 5 seconds of song for the last 3 months has been 3Ball MTY ..
LMFAO...

I swear i hear that synth in my sleep, because everytime I log on!
DJ Soup 2:44 AM - 20 January, 2012
I went to see what Joshua was talking about but now I wish I didn't cuz that synth is stuck in my head too now!

I always go to smashvidz.net to login, not smashvidz.com.

love that song :-)

we have a new update coming soon that will automatically update weekly. it will be implemented soon so you can go to sleep every night with a different tune haha

I just looked it as a "right of passage"

you want the gold you have to pay homage to synth gods and hear this daily.

whats funny is, after i click login, i see how quick I can click downloads....
its like a game,,,, awwwww. it too me 4 notes to get into the site.

another note, for those who might be confused or mis-informed.
if smash isnt in your library you are doing yourself and you crowd a terrible diservice.

BUT... if you live in MY MARKET. i urge you to NOT use smashvidz...
bwwwaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha.

I do, but the clean audio. The video isn't that bad.
I don't mind asses shaking, but asses in a strip club are generally flashed more often
Joshua Carl 8:20 PM - 20 January, 2012
I've had to go into some of mix emergency's effects on certain videos in certain places...some of them you can tweak just right to sort of "censor" them

my bad I didn't mean to sound "rude". It's just preference for me. I use alot of acapella in-out in my sets. In opens up more options for a dj to be more creative this way. It would be great if you could search smashvidz by "video edit". My only arguement is that you have a ton of vids to search thru it would make it easier on the dj's that just need "clean" or "dirty" edits by simply search for just those edits. Like if I'm doing a highschool dance then I would love to just search for "every" clean edit by that keyword specifically. I was told you would impliment this in the future. I do love use guys edits and ur quality and sound is top notch. What i didn't like were video edits that were blenx and it was part of the song and the the entire acapella after for the video. Most dj's only need an 8 or 12 bar acapella out to drop a beat over not the entire acapella. It's just a suggestion. Kinda like how DMS does with their acapella out edits. I guess for a video this would seem more difficult to edit tho.
DJ Tecniq 10:26 PM - 20 January, 2012
I do love the short video edits (snipz) they come in handy when just doing a quick video set. Something Xtendamix doesn't have. It would benefit dj's more if you could search intro's just like with audio pools by "clean", "dirty", xtendz, snipz, blenx-in, blenx on SV. It would make it so much easier for dj's that are on the run and don't have time to browse the whole sites videos page by page. Sometimes I just want certain edits.
popnwave 10:57 PM - 20 January, 2012
I agree that most video sites have HORRIBLE search options.
djpuma_gemini 2:00 AM - 21 January, 2012
when you have that much content it's hard to make the search that easy. Xtenda is a live search, so if you type ushe, it will show everything for usher, no need to type enter.

that's why i prefer xtendamix. I haven't used SV lately. When i purchased my subscription they said they'd impliment a way to search by video edit in the future. They haven't yet which was last yr when I mentioned it. I mean we are in 2012 it shouldn't be that difficult to search by keyword or video edit. If anything it should be recommended.
DJMark 12:37 PM - 22 January, 2012
I still don't get what the big deal is with searching by video edit...aren't you usually searching for a particular artist or song anyway? Then you see in the results what edits there are...

What am I missing here?

Besides that, as long as the site's basic functionality is okay, I'd kind of rather have them spending the time on VIDEOS...

Searching by artist and song is fine. Searching by video edit is even quicker.
DJ Tecniq 1:34 PM - 22 January, 2012
Say i wanna do a video mix but use nothing but "blenx" edits. I'd have to search your entire site to find them page by page. Or say I'm dj'ing a dance or wedding and need strictly clean edits. Alot of times I would search by "label" and it would only give me a few results.
DJ Tecniq 1:40 PM - 22 January, 2012
The way I have your videos organized within my crates is by video edit which is brilliant. And I drag the videos in there correct crate by what kind of vid they are.

I understand for dance tunes it works. I don't know many dj's that need half of the song acapella for hip hop. I had to trash a few of em cause they were some diy acapellas/vinyl rips that didn't cut it.
marx 4:03 PM - 22 January, 2012
A Blenx is not a accapella out like your suggesting, that would basically be a Blenx-out. The Blenx series was originally intended to do a on the fly remix, if there was only 8 or 16 bars of a acapella you wouldn't be able to do a remix, only mix out. The mashup remix style is not so popular now but everything cycles around. This is why we continue to make them. Acapella outs to me are kind of pointless since the majority of the "DJ s" that would use that kind of mix 90% of the time they never make it that far into the song. Now I could see a Snipz acapella out kind of edit, but this has not been brought up to me in the past. Blenx-in is whats popular, but most songs don't start with a hook, we could chop it so it does but it would only work on some tracks.

You can mix your own accapella outs on the fly to fit your needs, just use the acapella, old school it :-)

I see. Snipz acapella out would be dope. I use alot of DMS acca in and out edits and they work for just about every song..I usually drop the intro right when the song goes acapella. It would be dope to have some video edits like that..currently blastvids are doing them they are nice. I guess I could just echo out for your blenx edits but there's no point if it's an ongoing acapella with chorus and all and other verses after it would sound "cluttered" I trashed most of em cause i really don't have use for a 32 bar blenx edit.
DJ Tecniq 4:24 PM - 22 January, 2012
I am currently playing/previewing a Blenx edit and the song goes for about a minute and then the rest of the videos 3 mins is straight acapella for a hip hop song. It kinda doesn't make sense when your video xtendz are only 12 bars..maybe im just picky
DJ Tecniq 4:31 PM - 22 January, 2012
Example: Song goes for about a minute then goes acapella for the rest of the entire vid. What is the point of that when your intro's are only 12 to 16 bars?

marx 4:41 PM - 22 January, 2012
Not familiar with the DMS acc outs. Yes I can see a use for the Snipz acc out, but again I would need a lot more feedback of users needing it.

BlenX - 8 bar intro, 1 verse, half chorus, acapella out for the remainder of the song

This is for on the fly remixing not to mix out. It doesn't go by time. The reason for the half chorus bar is so you don't slam into the next track which would sound abrupt and would throw everyone off (it gives it a more natural oldschool sound and feeling) so during this "time" of a half chorus acapella, this is when I would be scratch/teasing the next beat. I would then drop it when the next verse starts and continue with the mix until I was ready, walah a on the fly remix.

Cool. I see your point. I've never set cues for the next versus..so this may get interesting. Hard to believe your not familiar with dms acca outs. They have the best edits and hands down the best audio pool for me.

I'm sure I would if I mixed regularly, but plate is kinda full with Smash.
