Track separators between tracks

It would be really helpful if there could be separators that could be placed between bunches of tracks. These would be used within a crate where creating a subcrate would not be appropriate. It would be super helpful if you could label that separator, too.

Thanks!

You can always use a simple dummy file, even label and color it.

Yeah, I was thinking of that, but I'd need a bunch of dummy files - which I might just do. I could even name them ---------------- in the ID3... hmmmmmmm. I guess if they were 1s mp3s it wouldn't take up too much space, ya think ;)

Why a bunch? One would be enough, right?

well, I have a deep house crate, and I want to split those tracks into a few sub-sections from mellower tracks to vocal tracks to deep driving tracks. If I'd like more than one separator in a crate, I would need to have two different files because you can't duplicate the same file within the same crate. However, I could use those same separators in another crate if I don't decide to use labels on them as well.

Ah damn... havent thought about that one. You're right!

So I created a buncha files with -------------- as the artist and song title. I then would put labels like ----VOCAL----- to break things up. OMG! It's the handiest thing ever. I definitely suggest trying it.

To do it, I created a one second silent mp3 and copied a bunch of times. I then put the copies (20 of them) in a crate and drag them where appropriate. If you label the separators, you can easily tell which ones are already in use.

Also, if you sort your crates by track number (for manual sorting), putting a track separator at the very bottom is especially handy. This way any new tracks added to the crate appear below the separator and you can easily distinguish the new tracks (to be dragged up) from the crappy tracks that have drifted down to the bottom of the "pile".

I sort by "added". That does the trick if I want to know which tracks have been added lately :)

I do that for whenever I first import songs for the ALL crate, but eventually I still need to move them into their respective subcrates. Those subcrates are sorted by # as I have manually sorted the tracks according to style within the crate; in this case, newly added tracks to that subcrate appear at the bottom. If I switched to "added", I'd see the newly added tracks, but I'd lose the # sort order and you'd still have the same problem as with the # sort, they'd just be at the top now and unsortable :)

As an aside, it's kinda interesting because I never used the # column when I was playing at another mainstream gig, but instead sorted by BPM because I was hopping genres all night long. But now since I'm playing house, I'm able to throw all the house tracks in subcrates and can sort by the # column which is so much like how I sorted my record crates. The track separators now become like my plastic record separators/labels that I picked up from the record store... I love it! :)
