gtsakiris1 7:59 AM - 15 December, 2011
6 HOUR SET what do you open with ?? How to build the dancefloor, why is it so difficult to find DJ's that will build the night up instead of throwing bangers on at 10:30 ?
RichardM3317 8:46 AM - 15 December, 2011
Dirt Style's Hee Haw breaks B side track 1 is most appropriate
Discobee 8:50 AM - 15 December, 2011
I like your handle, how'd you come up with that?

Ima help you out on this one. Pay attention you may learn something!

Before you start dont let bpm dictate how you build your night fuck the bpm....ok now thats outta of way

start off by playing reconginizable old tracks from a few years ago but refrain from playing party break type tracks i.e tracks that want you to put your hands up when its 1030 and no one is drunk.

Use opening set to:

Warm up and find out what mood you want to be in that night
Get your Mic work together for that night (drink some lime juice)
Play new tracks that just came out that are not radio hits yet
Play some tracks that were hot 2-3 years ago
Mix in some classics damnit
Mix in songs that you personally like that fit whatever night your playing

Do not:

Play tracks with added before 1145
Play bangers before midnight but you can slide with bangers at 1130 if your spot closes early
Take request that will kill the overall vibe
Scratch loudley over the music it sounds horrible. Turn the gain knob before you get your scratch on
Beat juggle to much keep it to a minum its not DMC in the club
Do not quick mix through every song let the good ones breath sometimes

Remy very good advise! I learned from it! :)
Dj Nyce 4:15 PM - 16 December, 2011
b-sides and album cuts (tracks not released as singles) from current albums are great for opening sets as well.

Yeah I noticed that in your video, ha. Too much half beat flipping back and forth anyway

I usually play something that:

1. I usually find hard to mix in, so its a good excuse to play it from the top as an intro tune.

2. Something that is super different from whatever the previous DJ was just playing ( to kind of "disrupt" the vibes, in a good way )

3. Something Im pretty confident I can mix out of nicely for the first mix ( which hopefully sets off a good standard for the rest of my set )

Dropping something pretty radical and different I find catches peoples attention usually :)

I guess its about holding their attention from that point on that can be testing...

This is a problem in NYC clubs... I was big on quick mixing a few years ago.. but now I let songs breathe and let people enjoy em (unless its a gimmick track)

OP why the handle change i liked it

What do I do? I play tracks I like to listen to in my room that are great but I know no one knows it, and odds are they won't for a bit. For an example anything made by Bombs Away, those guys are going to be absolutely huge imo
gtsakiris1 2:42 AM - 6 February, 2012
thanks for the advice guys !!

Anyone having trouble w/ Crooklyn Clan ?!?? Try searching for items and have the same result each time. Also running very quickly
djvtyme85 3:50 AM - 6 February, 2012
Whatever was hot a few years back & go in on it bc you should have plenty of that to get em interested. But read your crowd & take notice of what strikes a chord. So as the night processes you can build on that energy. Once their all juiced go in on what's hot now & fill in gaps with those timeless bangers along the way.
