im sure i already missed this thread being somewhere else, so sorry for reposting if so...

has anyone tested to see how long you can record with Serato before it starts to "choke up" I have a

macbookpro 2.2 with 2 gigs ram

just curious

Depends on the size of your harddisk.

my longest is 80 minutes so far. I haven't tried to record any longer. I figure anything over 60 minutes is just fine.

As Nik says depends on size of your harddisk (or the free space)

The recording needs 100MB for each 10 minutes so a 2 hour set needs 1.2GB.
Once you go over 3 hours SSL will start splitting the file into 2GB chunks, this is because aiff has a maximum file size.

As long as you have the disk space free SSL will carry on recording forever.

im just interested in recording my sets at da club usually about 4-5 hours, I have 20+ gigs avail on my laptop and am just worried about the resources it takes and if SSL will have any issues recording that long

like nobspangle said, after 2h the file will be splitted, but you can convert them to mp3 and paste the files together.

This is my Input. Last night for the first time I recorded my show and it lasted exactly 180 minutes flawlessly. It stopped by itself. So that must be the max. Could be hard drive but im not sure just seems wierd that exactly at 180 min its stopped. The session recording is an awesome feature

This is not a problem of SSL, the aiff-file is limited.

I record all the time with serato and it usually records for 180 minutes and then automatically starts recording again right afterwards. I love it and have had no issues with bad recordings. I also have about 45 gigs free on my hard drive so no issues with space.
nobspangle 9:08 AM - 15 October, 2007
Shocker, if you look you will find you have more than 1 file for your set, the first recording will be the first 180 minutes and the next will have the rest of your set.

... read what nobspangle posted, and read how to save a recording. If you do *not* save the recording - it will be deleted. This does not apply to complete 180min parts.

i had no problems thanks for the tip on looking for a different file i didnt even see it. I was just really excited that it worked lol. I already released my first cd as a promo called shocker and sanchez live sessions. lmao
