Bought a mac

I bought a mac from my step son and serato will not install. I'm not great with computers as it is, but he installed it for me on my bday last month but when i turned it back on it was gone. I've been trying to reinstall for weeks and it goes all the way to the restar but when it comes back on(computer) nothing happens. I click on the serato icon, which isn't the lil black box with red dits like on my wifes pc, and the reinstall stuff come back up. I did some recearch and found that this mac only has 1gig of ram or whatever. is that my prob??? Please help

You are clicking the install file, not the actual program.
The program will reside in folder the "applications".
Also, you can delete the actual install file after installation is successful...

If all this sounds a bit complicated, you'll probably need to have another quick mac tour on files and folders. I'm guessing your step son could help you out?
