Hacking the TTM57 - any electronics gurus out there?

I am trying to work out how the channel faders work.
I have very basic electronics knowledge and hope someone might be able to fill in my (huge) gaps.
The fader has six connectors. There are two Hall Effect sensors on each board. Each sensor has power in and an output. The sensors each receive 5volts DC from the mixer and then, depending on where the magnet is positioned, kick out a proportion of this via their output leg. The mixer then interprets this and adjusts the output signal accordingly.
I think I've got this right so far?
What I'm not 100% sure about is why there are two sensors for the channel faders. I can understand two for the crossfader but I wonder if both sensors are used on the channel faders or if they are just the same board to cut down on production costs?

I attached a 10k pot to three pins of the connector strip. Negative to pin pot pin 1, +5v to pin 3 and the middle pin to the middle pin of the connector (what usually goes to the hall sensor's output leg). I then tried adjusting the pot but the audio output is not what I expected (imagine that!). When I turn the pot all the way 'down' I have audio output. As I turn the pot 'up' the audio output changes ever so slightly and then all of a sudden cuts out when I get to a certain point. If I keep turning the pot the audio output returns and remains even when I get to the end of the pot's travel.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to hook up the other three pins from the cable to the second set of terminals on a dual core pot?

I'm glad you're asking this question because I was about to ask the same of the cross faders, so if you have a schematic of the cross fader pins, please let me know because I am trying to replace the TTM57 fader with another brand, not intended for the Rane.

As for your question though, I'm not an expert but I would guess that the other pins have something to do with the curve control, and that's why you're getting full signal, then no signal. I think it has to be routed through the curve control pot and you may have bypassed that. Just an idea.
