Scott, I just got home from a 4 week trip, not been much online since november.
What I do is this:
1. > star-rate my tracks in iTunes.
2. > create five smartlists in iTunes, one for each star rating.
> I name these lists "iTunes 1 stars", "iTunes 2 stars" etc.
3. > select all tracks in list "iTunes 1 stars" list (press [cmd]+[a])
> add comment "1 Star" in the comment field for all tracks in the list.
4. > repeat for the other iTunes star lists.
5. > create five new smartlists in iTunes. List tracks with comment "1 Star", "2 Star" etc. ie: One list for each rating. These are for confirmation, to review that files are correctly tagged.
> I name these smartlists "Serato Rating".
6. > make five similar smartcrates in SSL, one for each "Serato Rating", ie from the comments field.
7. > rescan id 3 tags in SSL (under files tab) to update the "Serato Rating" SmartCrates.
This used to work flawless the other way around too, but in iTunes 10, apple decided to remove their rescan function... I've tried to have apple support people comment on this but there is a lot of silence over there. There is a apple script workaround, but its dead slow and pretty much useless in real use....
