Toggle Switch / Joystick Problem

djsteel 1:23 PM - 6 October, 2007
I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I really don't want to send my mixer in again. My left toggle switch when pushed down now does nothing. It has stopped working. Is there a way to fix this without sending the mixer to Rane?

Sometimes on mine and my friends almost new 57's we have to push the dam thing down twice to get it to engage. Luckily we dont use the transform function so it has never bothered us, but i wonder if thats normal.

The switches need to be soldered into place, unfortunately. I suggest sending it in for service when you can.

To send the unit in for repair you will need to be issued an RA# (return authorization number). To request an RA, please e-mail me your serial number, full name, shipping address and telephone number.

Once we receive the unit, our turnaround time is typically 3-4 days.

ok thanks It took a week last time I sent it in and I shipped it next day which was 129.00. Just really need the mixer right now I'm on the radio and work 6 nights a week at clubs. Do you know of a good way to get another one as a back up? where is the best deal on them right now?

I would call a few different Rane dealers in your area and shop around for the best deal -->> rane.com

That's a wrong policy RANE. I am in Europe. For me to send the mixer means AT LEAST 2 weeks without work (assuming I'm Serato user only). It also means a lot of money for shipping. That's what's putting me off for now. If you've had a repair centre in EU, or if you can send the related part that would really be great. Untill any of the above is/can be done my purchase of TTM57SL is on hold.

i took my mixer in for repair monday afternoon. Got it back tuesday morning...and it works better than before. Zero complaints from the guy that lives 12 minutes from the factory. If i ever go back to a clock-in job (NEVER!!!) that's gonna be the first application I submit. what better place to work than for the people who developed the thing that consumes so much of my life. Rane/Serato essentially pay my bills already haha...

How about you buy the mixer in Europe? Then your dealer is responsible for it, he will send it to the distributor who should be able to fix minor problems.

No Rane dealer in Bulgaria. If I buy it from Germany does that mean I have to ship it to the dealer in Germany in case of a fault(even minor one like buttons or the switches mentioned above)? Then the dealer ships it to USA. That sounds like 3 weeks to me. And judging to the above and other threads that would be imminent within year of use and will happen maybe every year. If I switch entirely to Serato I would be out of business for as long as the mixer is not with me. If however I can get the switches it takes half an hour for a good technician to solder it. Just my thoughts... Oh and I would spend so much money on Rane mixer because of quality build - that is at least 4-5 years fault free use for me. But ATM I have only two options
1. TTM56 + SL1
2. Even better - 4 channel mixer with SL1
BUT the above is in case I can control Serato through controller like Trigger Finger, KontrolPad etc. not keyboard.
Finally

I hear some users have TTM56 for as long as 4 years without probs.
Why It is not the case with TTM57SL?

Yes.

Not in Germany AFAIK, they ship it to the distributor and they try to fix it in house. If they cant you may have to talk with them whether they will do an advance replacement - may work.

Yeah, there are a few reports about dodgy buttons.

1.8 will support midi, dont know when it will be available however.

Thats a weird question b/c the TTM57 is a different mixer. The components you can compare are for example the faders, they did not fail on the 56 and have the same performance and quality in the 57.

The buttons seem to be a crucial part on the TTM57, judging from the users and their posts about problems with it on this forum.

so i used my mixer tues, thurs, and fri with no problems. then all of the sudden saturday night i go to do a gig my crossfader won't cut. channel faders are fine but that's all i have. thankfully my guy had my pioneer djm400 (strickly backup) with my SL1 connected to it down the street and brought it up for me. glad i decided to hang on to it.

Check the ribbon cables connecting the fader to the main PCB. It sounds like it may have come loose.

this is exactly what happened...easy fix. just had to plug it back in. worked fine after....BUT, the exact same thing happened again this week. luckily i had a screwdriver and a 16 minute prerecorded mix. flipped everything to internal mode, removed ALL the nobs and screws (in dim club lighting), pulled both top plates off, plugged reconnected the fader ribbon, and put the whole thing back together. i realize this is all relatively easy, but should i really be having to do this so frequently? i mean, i literally used this thing for one night, plus about 30 minutes tonight before the crossfader had worked itself loose from the board. i mean, i love this mixer, but damn....
