recording session problems

hey ppl,
recently i've been bumping into reocrding issues, after recording a whole session (60min average) i go back to listen to my work and i get very high screech throughout the recording. when examining the waveform i see very high peaks that weren't there at the time of the recording. it sounds fine live, but sound like crap replayed is basically what i'm trying to get at. does anyone know why this is?
my predictions: not all my files have built overviews and maybe this is the cause
what do you think? is anyone having the same problems?

What do you have your recording gain set at. Is it redlining or is it in the yellow?

Hi djBRKFST,
I think the issue is digital clipping. The high screech sounds are the result of a digital signal becoming too high, and clipping.
Adjust the recording gain level to keep your signal around the maximum green area, and occasionally flicking into the yellow when tracks hit the loud sections.
We have an articles section, and one article all about gain structure in general: www.scratchlive.net
