Why do DJ AM's scratches sound 100000x better than mine? do cartridges or type of speakers completely change the sound quality of SSL scratches? what is he doing or using that's making his scratches sound soooo freakin good? mine sound terrible, although I am using really crappy speakers and somewhat older stanton cartridges. any help would be amazing, thanks.

Usually when i want to do a baby scratch at any point at the song, sounds to corny just a bunch of static and digital sound of record going back and fourth. I seen some djs Scratch anywhere on a song they get it to sound better than digital. Maybe it's some parts of the song that sound like crap or something?

Also threshold and "circles" set right?
See a lot of DJ's around who have absolutely no clue about either...

turned it on and off, still the same sound, and have my SSL calibrated right, are you sure it's not just because I have a really shitty needle? I'm using a really crappy older stanton needle, a 505.V3 standton needle to be exact, like seriously, watch that video i linked, my scratches sound NOTHING like that

Have you tried regular vinyl and compared that to SSL? Maybe it's just the way you're scratching. Of course it's going to sound the same if you unplug your tables/mixer since all audio is coming from SSL no matter where the time code originates.

I have tried using regular vinyl and It sounds pretty bad too, so I'm coming to the conclusion that I need better needles designed for scratching, I really don't think my old ass stanton's are made for scratching, they sound like shit when I scratch lol, It's either that or maybe it's because I'm using shitty speakers hooked into Aux port lol, maybe Aux makes you have bad sound quality?? Either way i'm calling serato today to figure this out, really pissing me off haha

A poorly calibrated setup is the main reason for sluggish/poor sounding scratches.
