Keen on DJ-ing and need to check out certain things on this mixer...

Hi guys...

Can this mixer double up as a studio mixer ?
Is it able to use Numark V7s within Serato Scratch Live or it must be with Serato Itch ?

I've been reading up on the gear used for DJing.
So far... This mixer as well as the V7s interest me.

I'm hoping to get a setup that doesn't need me to purchase a 2nd mixer for studio recording.
If possible, to be able to add instruments when necessary.

Thanks to anybody and everybody who post their thoughts !

Hey Kerraine,

I am always talking to people and trying to explain what a great mixer this is especially if your a producer/dj.
This mixer is perfect for the studio.
The Sixty Eight has taken the place of my Motu 828 and Mackie 1604.
The dual 10in/12out sound card is what makes it so special.
Me and my partner plug both our laptops into it, sync Ableton on our computers, and are able to create music together at the same time.
No more of one person sitting in front of his/her computer and the other person sitting there with their you know what in their hands:)
Audio can then be recorded back onto either computer and thrown into the main project.
This is a HUGE time saver and allows a constant flow of ideas in the studio.
That is on the producer side of things.
Then you bring the mixer to the club and can use it to rock the tracks you make keeping your workflow tidy and using the same mindset as you were using in the studio.

You can also multitrack record onto five separate tracks in the DAW of your choice.
Four tracks of audio coming from the mixer and the internal effects on the Sixty Eight can get recorded onto the fifth track allowing you to edit any mistakes... even with the effects.

Another amazing thing you can do is use the USB insert to run audio out of the mixer, to the DAW of your choice, through your favorite VST/AU effects, and then back to the mixer.
Check out the article I wrote explaining how this is done --> rane.com. There is no other mixer on the market that allows you to do that.

You will not be able to use the V7s with Scratch Live though. They only work when using the Itch product. You also can't use Itch with the Sixty Eight as its an all-in-one product.
The mixer is built into the hardware you'd purchase with Itch.

Thanks Zach !

Also...
V7s are said to be able to use any mixer.
So they're saying any mixer that has no software integration then ?

Read something about mapping...
Wouldn't I be able to use Serato Itch in this instance ?

V7s will work with the 68 since you are just routing the audio into a normal input on any mixer. Badass combo if you ask me...

Thanks Dub !

My guess it'll be connecting via phono and using Scratch Live then ?
It's such a complicated matter when it comes to the software.

As far as I know, if it's able to run audio as a normal mixer...
My bet is that it should be able to handle the V7.
It's the software that baffles me to the max !

Zach...

I'll be able to plug in guitars into this mixer ?

no, it's not a phono player.

the audio coming out of the V7 is line level and the V7 only works with Itch, not Scratch Live

So...

It's Itch and V7s with Rane 68.
I believe there is no need for the SL4, right ?

correct

Hey Zach S, why don't you post a video of some of these cool uses for the mixer in a DAW setting?
Kerraine 11:40 AM - 16 October, 2011
erange...

That's something I'd like to see !

And guys...
I'd like to know whether a pair of V7s will be able to run on a 17" MacBook Pro (April 2011, full specifications and matt screen except no SSD - the only thing I currently own) running both Traktor and Itch at the same time to get 4 decks.

It's a random thing that came by and wanna know if anybody actually tried this by any chance.

Excuse me.. I was wrong. Apparently you can kind of use the Sixty Eight with Itch when using these controllers.
You can't control anything in Itch from the Sixty Eight. All controls are on the V7s.
You wouldn't plug your computer into the Sixty Eight. You would plug the V7s into your computer and run the audio outs of the V7s into the Sixty Eight.

Yes... there is an instrument input:)
Kerraine 7:48 AM - 19 October, 2011
If I were to get the Sixty Eight...

Would it be a waste of a good mixer, honestly ?

Or can I get a Rane SL4 to hook up the V7s with a X5 for now and connect another mixer for instruments and stuff ?
I'm calculating that this will be able to give me a chance to slowly upgrade and not incur a big cost upfront.

With the.v7 you won't need a sl box at all...all you need is a mixer of your choice...if you get a rane 68/57 you will be able to use ssl in internal mode but won't be able to use the v7 to control scratchlive. I know it's confusing....but v7's only work with itch and Anymixer...All rane products work with scratchlive and any turntables or Cd decks
