Rane eq's..... can you explain, and answer a couple questions?

Hi guys, I'm a longtime rane user.
I've always either been rane of a&h
Why have I changed back &forth?
Because I hate some of rane's eq's. A&h makes beautiful sounding gear, but the build quality sucks.
I still have every rane mixer I ever bought. I recently sold an almost 24 year old mixer that I bought from a place destroyed in new orleans by hurricane Katrina. This thing sat submerged for like 3 days, and I still cleaned it out, dried it in our environmental chamber at my dad's lab, and it fired right up.
Incredible! I still got $800 for it.
On the 44, the eq's are fat, and have a good sweep. On the mp-2, mp-4, mp-24z, and even on the sixty eight, the eq's seem to do less positive Ewing, and more subtractive Eqing.
If I want more bass (and I have 8 18" jbl srx) I normally can up the eq.. On the sixty eight, it does little. It seems like the eq's are almost full on, or full off.. They don't have a nice smooth taper.
I have a Midas Venice mixing board, and an a&h mix wiz. The eq's are beautiful. I know this is a dj mixer, but why make such weak eq's.
What would be stellar would be to have a dialog in the sixty eight configuration tool that allowed you to set the gain of the eq, and the in and out points of the band it controls. Are these fixed pots, or could this be achieved.
I have a live sound background, and when doing large festivals and such, we always scratch our heads at how bad the eq's are on dj boards.
Is there a reason we don't get the control of a high end sound board? And can it be fixed??
Thanks!
Are the eq curves firmware fixable??

This sounds just like a car commercial I heard yesterday - I think it was for Nissan.
Steve - Make it so! ;-)
(btw, I added the very 1st line above to go with the commercial)

...Wouldn't it be nice if one day we were all... DSP programmers (it'll be taught in 6th grade) and DSP compilers will come with your phone to implement exactly the audio software gadget you want. We'll hook up robust wireless controls in any way we want - we'll find such controls next to the gum in the supermarket check out line. You can assemble your own hardware and software combo just by thinking about it. But boy I wish we could do this today. This sounds just like a car commercial I heard yesterday - I think it was for Nissan.

Steve, While I understand you wanting to idiot proof your gear, someone who buys a damn near $3000 mixer is usually a user who knows what they're doing. A professional user needs tools that behave like professional tools should.
I run a production company. I have 3 Rane 68's now. most clubs don't even have one. I own 9 copies of serato. I'm a professional user.
My point is, I know how to use a mixer. Anyone who spends the money for a mixer like that should know their gear. In 14 years of full time DJing, I've never blown a speaker.. Why? Because I studied sound, I read books, I learned how my equipment worked, and I treated it with respect.
I implore you to give us a firmware option much like the filter fix you guys did. That made an unusable filter work the way it should..
I an still toast a cabinet with your limited ones, so what's the point? Please give us the option to let us enjoy the full potential of this product. I'm carrying a secondary allen & heath board to pipe the rane through so i can get a fat sound.
Let us use our sixty eights this way instead??
Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

It just takes the slip of the hand to push things into overdrive/overload if there is too much dynamic range. However, I also run large systems from time to time where some more oomph is needed. I basically run everything via dsp after the sound board though so getting that range is as easy as setting a preset up to provide the extra bass boost. Pick yourself up a cheap dsp and incorporate any boost you need that way. I sure in the hell don't want some noob dj coming on my system, running gains too hi and boosting the bass all the way up. I'm loving this over my old pioneers.
A firmware upgrade to change the range in the settings could possibly be nice (or a eq add on that you could midi map for a bass boost would probably work the best).
But I am overall happy as, when we switch dj's multiple times a show - you never know who your going to get on the gear.
Last wall of defense - compressors.

The Rane 68 firmware update mid last year allowed you to adjust the taper of the filter.
It's in the control panel.. it makes it quicker a-la Allen & heath filters, instead of the long slow filters Rane uses by default.
