where did all the beta sections go?

DJ Dub Cowboy 6:58 AM - 22 August, 2011
I see Itch 1.7 and VSL 1.2 but nothing else.
LJ_WOOLSEY 10:27 AM - 22 August, 2011
+1 Where the scratchlive betas gone?
nik39 10:50 AM - 22 August, 2011
Not even in the Graveyard section.
radikarl 10:53 AM - 22 August, 2011
this is bad.

there was some good knowledge in the beta areas

however, this has happened before.
i noticed it when i was searching the text displaying quartz composition by AKIEM, which he posted in some older VSL beta IIRC.

Serato realized how many people knew how many existing bugs there were in their final products and probably thought it'd be best to just hide the bug reports instead of actually fixing them so that ppl stop complaining :P
nik39 6:14 PM - 22 August, 2011
Lol!
DJ Dub Cowboy 6:18 PM - 22 August, 2011
Between Itch and Scratch there has to be a better way to track bugs, so hopefully they are redoing the way betas are handled.

I was actually searching for these too and came up short. wtf?
DJ Dub Cowboy 7:20 PM - 22 August, 2011
Even crazier that all the thread I contributed to in beta sections don't show up in my tracked discussions.

Better get the server gnomes in check

Hi Guys,

We did have a bit of a "clean up" in closing old areas yesterday to ease the management load for developers on the number of areas they're covering, however we totally understand your request, particularly as a knowledge source. We've set the areas to Read Only for the time being so you should still be able to view & search everything in there. This is not to say your issues won't be addressed now that they're read only, just that we're trying to keep the number of areas they're spread across to a minimum to make it easier to manage. Hope that helps.

Hi Adrian,

this helps indeed.

Now i am just curious - why is that:

why leave those (...) ?

I can see that VSL 1.2 is the newest version, so that sort of makes sense, but why itch 1.7 ?

Thank you for making the other betas accessible again!

Hi radikarl,

Both ITCH 1.7 and 1.7.1 beta's should still be there.

We working on nailing a process to handle closing betas consistently, it's just a bit of a fine balance with not leaving them open to long but making sure people still have access to a good knowledge base for long enough.
radikarl 10:11 PM - 23 August, 2011
yes that is what i mean.
why leave those there, but close the newer itch 2.0 beta?

We haven't closed it, it's been reopened in a read only state, just as the 1.7 area is :-)
DJ Dub Cowboy 10:37 PM - 23 August, 2011
Itch 2.0 beta section is not showing up for me.

Itch 1.7 beta is still in the Itch section
VSL 1.2 beta is still in Video SL section

all other betas have been moved to the graveyard

Have another look now guys, have made some adjustments and cleared some caches, should show up in the ITCH area now.
DJ Dub Cowboy 10:42 PM - 23 August, 2011
there it is

however why have some in the graveyard and some in certain section?

very confusing

how about creating a BETA section
DJ Dub Cowboy 10:49 PM - 23 August, 2011
just had this idea, don't know how easy it would be to implement

when people are creating new bug reports it would be great to have a live search of the subject line and tags.

maybe on the side or below, there would be a list of other threads that could potentially be the same issue.

maybe not even a live search but make the report in steps.

1. select tags and type out subject line
2. next page would start with a list of potential duplicate threads across relevant beta sections.
3. either add to existing thread -OR- complete bug report as intended.

these last couple public betas seemed real sloppy with duplicate threads
DJ Dub Cowboy 10:50 PM - 23 August, 2011
lol, now the graveyard is gone and all the betas are back where they started
Serato
adrian w 10:52 PM - 23 August, 2011
Yeah people have suggested the same idea and we're looking into ways to avoid duplicate threads but at the end of the day if it takes a bit of searching and extra work on the user end, it risks frightening people out of a more complicated process.

I've corrected the placements of those existing threads so they should be where they belong now and will close this thread for now as the areas should be sorted.
DJ Stoyvo 1:43 PM - 24 August, 2011
Just make a category as such Scratch Live Beta Discussion :P
