I stumbled across this forum by accident but enjoyed reading some of threads. I notice a lot of people are obsessed with Paul van Dyk using Scratch so I thought I'd link to some photos I took of Paul spinning at ICE in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 15th. It was excellent and I enjoyed being "right there" next to him. In case people are interested, he did spin some CDs but no vinyl other than the timecode vinyl for Scratch.

On my diamondron CRTs at work at can't tell, but on my Dell TFT screens at home you can clearly see the VU meters.

Nice pics thanks, how was the party Mark?
BTW nik on the first pic I could also see the VU meters are not the updated 1.4 look, maybe PVD doesn't have time to properly test new versions without trying it at a gig so he might be using an older version because it simply works for him. Also why doesn't he have a new PowerBook? Damn with all the money he makes the first thing I would do is update that :D

Why would anyone use FS2? I used it and it's good, but it's not better than SSL.

this was from the show i went to a few weeks ago here in dallas, texas. i posted another message in another thread on this board about it. i basically said "i am not sure if pvd was using final scratch or serato, but somebody told me he was using final scratch." well, i got this picture yesterday, and went back to the guy who said he was using final scratch, and he kept saying he was sooooooooo sorry for being wrong. hehe. hes a cool guy though.
but yea, looks like pvd is a dedicated serato user at this point. this is the third picture i have seen of him using serato in the last 2 months.

i think PVD has gone back to FS2 as he now uses the softwrae only with CD's.

it is very new because of the following points
1. he now uses a new Powerbook (the ones with the stronger hinge and the aluminium keyboard)
2. he now uses CD players (he wrote an interview this summer saying that he would stop using turntables)

he is not using Traktor directly, it is the Final Scratch Implementation of Traktor DJ Studio.
I am a SSL fan but until the GUI gets better and the loop function comes on i have to admit that i#d prefer a FUNCTIONING Finalscratch over SSL anyday.

GUI gets better? What do you miss in the GUI or what would you change?

Some more words would be good. How should the developers know what you dislike about the GUI?

i already told a lot of times. I don#t like the various colours of the waveline, i don't like the balck background, i don't like the vertical waveform with a small range, i miss a total length waveform that is redable unlike the one now.
Is that enough?

What!? The verticle, multicolor waveform is one of the most ingenius ideas I've ever seen. Yes it takes some getting used to, but in the end I think it's far superior to horizontal waveforms. The background has to be black then because of all the colors. But I will agree that the complete waveform could be a bit bigger and/or readable.
Just for kicks, this is what SSL would look like with horizontal waveforms....

Could work, but to be honest I find the verticle waveform just brilliant. Its easy to read and makes sense.
The waveform at the moment is fine (mind you, could be because im using a 17" screen - however with my 15" previous laptop it was fine too) you can still see where breakdowns are gonna come in.
I think the GUI is easy on the eye. In a dark nightclub, you dont wat a bright white screen as it's gonna hurt, these muted colours look good. When customers, staff of the club where i work see SSL they all think its the coolet thing in the world. Now i know its for me to use, however it still says a fair bit
