I talked to a fellow DJ and he told me that the 57sl is becoming a dead technology due to usb drop out it has, serato works better with 2.0 usb, bad sound quality, doesnt work with SL2,3,4 etc and "clicks" and "pops" he hears when he does mixes.
Im new to the Digital game so can anyone pls clarify this for me or give me some input? Ive been in the market for that mixer and I dont want to buy it if its having those problems and Rane comes out with a better mixer with better sound quality.

Don't believe the hype I been using my 57 since Feb and not one problem and I'm running a Dell studio done about 30 parties I record my sets no drops and optimizing the laptop and setting the 57 to it helps alot. I read all the stories but didn't feed into them I trusted my friend over the last 25 years Dj Big Wiz and Rane for there vast knowledge of a great product! I have not regretted it ever since!

I agree w/ Ready Red...don't believe the hype! I've had the 57SL since it came out and I've had 2. No issues at all! (left 1st one on top of truck on the way to a gig @ club and it shattered over highway!....Gulp...I know you feel my pain!)
But I haven't had any issues with clicks or pops. Sound quality great, great product. You should buy it.

I don't have a 57 at the moment but I bought one new in feb '10 and had it for over a year and did countless parties with it, not to mention using it all the time at home. Never once did I have so much as a "pop"/"click" let alone any "dropout". (This is on an old macbook btw)
also the audio quality is amazing, don't let ignorant people fool you.

I've had my TTm57 since the week it was released and has been rock solid.
take it to all gigs and swap out the club mixer as I could live without it.
only thing that would make me get rid of it is a TTm58 :=)

Honestly I really want a 3 channel, etc etc; but the 57 is the *ish! Its incredibly durable and the ease of setup saves invaluable time. Rane support is great and you can send it back to get it fixed quickly and easily. I even had one get rained on and when i tipped it over about 1 liter of water came out. I opened it up, took a few pieces out, got the hairdryer out for 30 min, put it together and it worked flawlessly!!! Yes usb 1.0 isn't the best, yes the aux routing/mic routing (no cue, permanently through the fx buss) is annoying but for a 2 channel mixer with midi control its the best. And nowadays you can get one used under $1000. And even if rane comes out with some 3ch or updated 2.0 usb 57, the current model will still be worth $600 or so as a backup/home unit.

I have 5 57s and out of the 5 I have sent ONE in for repair. That was 2 weeks ago. The unit is 4 years old. I would say that's a pretty good track record. The only other mixer I can say that is that rock solid is another Rane mixer...and the original Vestax pmc-05

So what's the cost of repairs from rane? I just bought a new one today and guitar center was trying to get me to pay extra for their extended warranty. From all the stuff I've read here over the years, I had a feeling that I didn't need it.

Zach told me, that the WORST case scenario was either $300 or $600. I don't remember how much they charge per hour. but it wasn't that bad. Rane is really good with repairs.

Personally if there was something new (gear wise) I wanted to buy but didn't need it right away and could wait for the NAMM show in Jan, I would wait. There are a lot of DJ's and musicians who feel the same way and have seen the same pattern... Traditionally, a lot of companies show their new products there and what they are releasing soon. That's not to say it's gonna be available then but at least you may see what's coming next and possibly get some kind if a time frame for it. (which makes deciding what to get or what to wait on a more informed decision) Now if you can wait till then and there is nothing new, then you can go ahead and get what you wanted and it was no big deal because you had the time to wait anyway and you know there probably won't be anything new for at least another year. Now, this is not some kind of law or rule that companies have to follow but looking back over the past several years, that has been a pretty common pattern for a lot companies.
It sucks to get something new and a few months later have the company release something new and better. That happened to me a few yrs back with computers, I needed re up pretty much my whole studio... Tower, laptop etc.. I checked and was told Apple probly wasn't gonna have anything new for a while and spent a good amount of money on new computers. A few months later they released new Mac Pros, then Macbook Pros, New iPads... haha I wasn't too happy but it really didn't matter. When I bought all the new stuff, it was at a point I had waited as long as I could and NEEDED it for some projects and shows I was working on. I couldn't afford to wait any more. Rane just like any other company is going to always keep making new products but unlike a lot of other equipment companies, they don'y usually make products to replace their other products but make new products to add to their line. I see a lot of DJ's still using the 56 and Empath even though the 57 and Sixty-Eight have been out for a while now. (the 57 at least... the Sixty-Eight is not very old). Rane product for the most part seem to have a pretty long life and continue to be supported much more so than any other brand out there.

I've had my 57 since '07 or '08. I came from a Pioneer 707, and that was a solid mixer, but it doesn't compare to the tank-like 57. Solid cross-fader, built-in Serato, effects, etc. I love the sound quality, I love the durability, and I love the size. I'm a two-channel guy, and have been fro the past ten-years. If you're rocking two decks--cdj or analog--I can't think of another mixer that really gets the job done, no matter what level you're at--turntablist, trick-mixer, straight mixing.

I also had a Pioneer before my 57, although it was a 909. I sold that and my sl3 to get the TTM and I'll never look back. The 909 was an awesome mixer but I love the user interface on the ttm. No more reaching over to trigger samples, fx, cues, etc... Even on the 909 (built for speedy fx) It took a few seconds to adjust parameters and ,more often than not, missed the chance to insert them into the mix. Even with years of practice. With the ttm I've almost whittled those seconds to being instant within a couple of months. I love this thing and as I said, I'll never look back.

Ha, if this doesn't scream "No Longer Supported", then I don't know what does. Mixer is still good but yea, if you plug just 1 USB device in other than the mixer you're gonna get major drop outs unless you move the Buffer setting all the way to the right.

The only thing I don't like about TTM57 is the headphone cuing. Believe it or not, the Behringer DJX 700 and 750 had the best headphone cuing I've seen. I loved the split cue feature with cue mix in left ear and main out in the right. Great for noisy clubs and bad echos. With 57, I have to constantly adjust the cuing fader and push the mix/cue button each time. Other than that, I love the thing and all its features.

Split Cue would be great but I've learned to deal with it...at least until the 58 comes out

That type of cueing, i think, is standard for 2 channel mixers. At least it has been on all the ones Ive had. I had a go on my friends berringer not long ago and the headphone split didnt work out for me. Sliding the faded has never presented a problem.
Niro
8:46 PM - 12 January, 2012
Not a big fan of split cue. Actually the cueing system on the 57 is probably the most efficient. Oh and I mix with in-ears. Levels and mixes are more accurate when you can hear both at the same time. Split cuing is great If your coming from your standard monitor headphone type of djing. But when you learn to mix with both, you won't go back. Thumbs down on the split cue.

11:48 PM - 12 January, 2012
I don't think it should have to be one or the other. You should be able to adjust the knob accordingly. I use in ears too and it's definitely different when you don't have both in. However, there are some times when it's not possible. I work with MCs and I have to be able to hear them. Using the 57, I have to keep hitting the button in between cuing up and mixing a song. Very annoying. When it's just you there's no problem.
DJ Reflex
4:13 AM - 13 January, 2012
I hear ya on the choice for either one. With a good monitor, the 57 has great cuing. But there should be a selector switch for either option. Problem is... even if the 58 comes out with this option, I'm too broke to buy a new mixer! :) Just got the 57 (upgrade from a $200 Behringer!)
Got to get some more gigs I guess. Pay for some new toys.
