How about implementing an instant loop function, which loops automatically the following 4, 8 or 16 bars when pressed.

That would be cool. Along with a 4/8/16 beat grid on the main wav overview.

this would be magically for creative reasons... also, no more extending instrumentals or the like in a wave editor!

Ye a loop function that works just between cue points would be fairly crappy. Would be much better if it worked like on a cdj so you can do it on the fly without any preperation

I don't wan't to make any advertisement for any other products, but I stumbled over a nice little freeware / shareware program of an idependent programmer.
It's called DJDecks - and it has this function already implemented. It's far not so professional like SSL, but to get an idea how it should work in SSL, it is worth a view.

Yeah, really true!
And SSL could be even far superior to the PVDJ, 'cause you could set loops for both decks at the same time independently and mix them also on a battlemixer with just two channels.
You need two PVDJs to do that, and that's a whole lot of money ... ;-)
This function would make SSL the real killer device for all minimal DJs, playing around with millions of different beat snippets...
