Goodbye Technics.... Hello NS6

Just ordered the NS6 Today after about a year since I went and looked for a suitable replacement for my 100+lb Coffin with Two Technics and Mixer. From the NS7 to the V7 to the VCI 300, nothing seemed to work as a suitable "more mobile" replacement for me.
I've gotten to the point in my DJ career where most of the time I use my turntables is in the studio at the radio station rather then during the weekends at the clubs. I find that I'm playing sometimes at 3 different clubs and parties all within hours of each other. Last week friday put the final note that my days of spinning with the wheels of steal are done. 4 gigs, in one night... 4 times setting up, and breaking down while watching house DJs set up in about 3 minutes with small controllers versus my 10 to 15 minutes of set up time and large area of space required for all my equipment.
The NS7 was a horrible attempt at replacement for me since it wasn't much easier to carry around and took up just as much space as my two Techs and mixer..... Same goes for my V7s.... and the VCI was too small for me to full enjoy without accidentally hitting all the numerous "opps" buttons. Plenty of times when I will try to do a few quick cuts and my palm with mash the play/pause button and offer me a slight dose of embarrassment.
So hopefully this NS6 will be the answer I'm looking for. Small enough to carry around yet large enough for me to feel comfortable on. I love my Technics to death and they will always have a place in the studio for me. If anyone has some field experience with these NS6s let me know.

Why didnt you just get pioneer CDJs?? The CDj 850s weight like 7 pounds each. The 400's have native control, full midi you dont even need control CDs. Ive been using my homeboys CDJ850 almost every week now and its perfect for serato. I use one CDJ only with instant doubles. It takes me a few minutes to setup, easy.

You know I was highly highly debating the CDJs.... but when combined with a mixer and coffin, You have to understand that clubs in the Virgin Islands are different from in the USA. Space is always an issue down here since you'll find that 5 to 6 sometimes even 10 DJs will perform in a night. Alot of times you'll be asked to move or remove your equipment to make room for a next DJ. With my Technics, only a few DJs in the VI know how to use them. The rest look at them like something out of a museum. At this point, one solid piece with a power source that can be set up and broken down in a matter of seconds need be is beneficial....
The main selling point for me with the CDJ 850 was the lack of Native Support... :-( Almost as if Pioneer was like.... F**k you... buy the 900/2000 or deal with the small jog wheels of the 400.... :-(

more power to you man. i have a VCI as a last-ditch emergency backup but i hate spinning on it. SSL>Itch by far. Plus, actual mixing on a controller is a no-go. the pitch resolution isn't acurate enough. that leaves auto sync. i might as well quit DJing if i get to that point. i'll probably lug the 100lb + coffin for the rest of my career. if i am doing 4 parties in one night, i'll hire someone to carry my gear for me.

I know what you're talking about but I can not get used to the feel of a cd player or a controller.
I love the feel of the turntable. If I do multiple gigs (which is once a month) I use just one turntable and the 57 mixer. With that set up Im good.

The size of the 400s is the same as the new pioneer controllers for itch and traktor, that DDj series. Thats what Id be looking at over a numark. Also the NS6 has non moving platters so the size is really irrelevant IMO.

Also I think a big mistake is having everything in one coffin. Both my technics are in their own case. Same with my mixer. So really if space is problem you should think about that. That would solve the space dilema. All you would need is a laptop bag, one CDJ/turntable and a mixer.

Depends on the situation really, cases def make it easier on the back and more maunavorability, but me personally i put a coffin on a keybard stand, it saves space i dont have and also cuts down the setup time down to nill, all i have to do is plug in 1 cable and im up and goin

It definitely cuts down on the setup time, but as far as space, no way. A big ass coffin is not the best thing. Its heavier and not easy to transport. I know cause I have one. I gave up on for that reason, its sitting in my basement.
My 57sl and one pioneer CDJ takes up the same space.. less actually than something like an NS6/7. I get the benefit of using serato and can still pull off close to whatever I normally would with turntables.

what does that have to do with space, what im saying is where i spin theres no room for a table so i have a coffin on a keyboard stand, that takes up alot less space then a big folding able would that i would have to use if i had seperate cases

Well you said its saves space, but it doesnt. For you its just easier because there is no table. Now if you have a table or booth like most of us its easier to travel and setup with separate cases IMO.

pardon me for not doing my own research, but can any of these small, mobile friendly controllers be used with serato (not interested in itch)?
i too am getting real tired of dragging around turntables and cdj's are mighty expensive, and still pretty big and heavy.
thanx.

the pitch is digitally controlled (obviously) and depending on the pitch range you selected... i'll quote Giz's review: 'ITCH offers pitch ranges of 8, 16 and 50% with somewhat rough resolutions of 0.02, 0.04 and 0.1%. I say rough as it can vary by a little bit. There's also pitch bend that shifts by a seemingly infinite amount, but still offers good nudge control if you've yet to succumb to auto sync. "
pretty close but not as close as analog. the NS6 may be one of the better controllers from manual mixing. my VCI-300 is a lost cause. you can get pretty close but you're not riding out a tricky mix for 16 bars. controllers have auto-sync for a reason.

The NS6 is a solid unit. I would have picked it up if it was released earlier. I opted for the DDJ-S1. Best investment I have made in a long time. It make look fragile but the thing is a beast.
Not sure about the turntable accuracy over digital. Digital does not have to deal with the wow and flutter of analog. Watch your pitch in Serato. You can see it constantly fluctuating with turntables.

you really cant use the "digital vs analog" pitch argument to say a TT is better than a controller sing the techncs M5G grandmaster is a digital based pitch

Even though the NS6 is cool, I'd never invest my money in Numark aka "Poomark." When the NS7 first came out people said "it's the next big thing!" now it's considered old and dated. Even the V7's which just came out last year are now considered old. The CDX's were the latest and greatest thing during their release but now you can't even resell them.
Numark has done a good job at marketing the NS6 and building hype but their track record speaks for itself. I'd rather invest in a Pioneer DDJ S1

Old and dated to you perhaps, but isn't that more a comment about the insatiable hunger for new shiny tech than anything else? The market is under the 4 channel spell right now, thus anything 2 channel is perceived as a bit last year. The NS7 and V7 are not really old at all. I suspect that many people see iPhone 3GS as ancient, but it still does just the same job as it always did and is totally current in that respect.
Product life cycles are so short these days because of technology. How long before USB devices are classed as ancient when people scream to make use of Thunderbolt ports on their new macs?
It's all about perspective.

Really, just like the NS7 and every other product Numark comes out with. A lot of newbie DJs buy their stuff only to sell it later for something better. The same stuff people are saying about the NS6 is the same stuff they said about the NS7.. its a beast, built to last, the truth, etc. Numark has a good price point lets face it. If they were the same price as Pioneer which would you choose? Id go pioneer all day!

If you really look at it though (not tying to diss so just read, breathe, comprehend) its kinda stupid for anyone to invest in a controller tright now, we are living in the beta age of controllers, were the crash test dummies, and these things are going to be refined and streamined SOON, it kinda seems silly to drop cash on one now when these companies are getting feedback and adding, fixing, improving what all is needed in the product.
I guess its a technics mentality but it kidna seems stupid to adopt these until a gen or 2 go by and they are what we really want. (unless you really need it now)

honestly, almost every venue i play has someone available to me to help me load in gear. sure my coffin is 125+ lbs but i haven't carried it on my own in years. when i don't have help, i use a hand truck with 10" wheels to climb stairs and load in. plus i drive a Honda Element with a low tailgate so loading and unloading is easy. i would never let weight be a deciding factor. but with all that said, i'm interested in trying the NS6. might upgrade my backup when the price comes down on them. especially with Itch 2.0 on the horizon. if they add smart crates, it would be alot more usable for me.

Numark does a good job at releasing New Stuff but they dont cultivate hard core followings for their products like Rane, Pioneer, and Technics. They'll release something new shiny and cool then abandon any support for the owners of the "old stuff."

Serato itch is looking a lot more like Serato... it will be interesting to see what happens with all these new controllers coming out.

what power strip do you use to have all 3 sockets (2 TT and mixer) permanently plugged up together and still make it fit in the coffin? I've been looking into this myself but there isn't much space under the 57SL or or top.. there's some but not much. If this is possible, all I would have to plug is 1 power cable and 1 audio out. I would need at least 6 plugs though.. 2 TT, 57, lappy, small fan, wireless mic.

??? it's not hard to find a surge protector that will fit in a coffin if you've got space. take some measurements and hit the hardware store. i have a 5-slot that fits behind my right TT. it runs power for both TTs, mixer, wireless mic and laptop. i'm sure i could have squeezed a 6 space in there but didn't need to so never tried.

My girl has the DDJ-S1, and though I like it, it doesn't even compare to the quality the NS6 has to offer. LOL, I couldn't believe I actually purchased another piece of Numark kit. Last time I did that was in 1997, but the really outdid themselves this time, and I couldn't be happier.
Now if Serato could just make ITCH a little more like SSL......

You hit the nail right on the head! Its all about the software being improved at this point. This piece looks and feels solid. I am just a bit sketched out about what itch 2.0 is going to bring to the table and how stable it will be. I don't think I can't wait that long to purchase tho. For the guys who advocate this piece: do you notice that the effects on not on par with ssl? I played with it yesterday and it seemed to operate like the first update that included effects in ssl.

I guess its a technics mentality but it kidna seems stupid to adopt these until a gen or 2 go by and they are what we really want. (unless you really need it now)
Can't agree with this more. I'm 20+ years now on Technics and know controllers ARE the future, but IMO not a single one of these manufacturers has hit a grand slam home run (yet). Sure, there are some solid doubles and triples out there, but none of them have been able to nail it for the professional market. The current crop of NS6, S4 and DN-MC6000 are leading the pack and getting close, but every one of them has dropped the ball in at least one or more areas.
Patiently waiting for the SL-1200 equivalent for digital world replacement with cash in hand. Frankly, I don't care what it costs, just make it proper (which begs the question: when the Hell is Rane going to throw their hat into the controller ring).

I did, and love it....but would still prefer a controller that let me use my Turntables if I wanted. Having the NS6 allows me to hook up my SL3 & Techs to it, so at least that's something. Yes, I think controllers are the future, and can't wait to see what the future has in store. My guess is that the traditional mixer is going to be replaced w' something like the NS6 for all companies. Bring it on :)

The biggest problem I'm having with the NS6 is that there is NO CUE METERING. Unbelievable, but true. I don't know why Numark did this or how they expect users to visually adjust gain trim without it, but it may sadly turn out to be a deal-breaker for me.

I know, I'm hoping it won't be a big deal either, but it's proving to be a real pain the ass with TTs connected to it and trying to visually manage 3-4 sources in the mix (and you know how wildly gain varies on vinyl). I have this NS6 for a week trial run and I'm trying desperately to for in love with it, but now I don't know. Most everything else about it is spot on. Would like to know what Numark was thinking here. Surely it couldn't have been forgotten. FML, WHY CAN'T JUST ONE OF THESE MANUFACTURERS GET IT 100% RIGHT?!?!?!

You shouldn't have to try and fall in love with something it should just match for you. This is the reason why I still use tables nothing has really got my attention the last controller I tried was xponent

Odyssey made it, $350. Originally they quoted $450 but they hooked it up on the price because they are local and I went down there and made buddy buddy with the sales people and the owner.

I've been begging for that since ITCH first dropped.
I wish you well with the NS6. The revolution started a long time ago and is still going strong with the 1200 and it will be up to us DJ's to keep it going. But if you're going all out with controllers, than you step up to this controller
www.youtube.com
It's way lighter than the NS6 and way easier to set up and I'm sure someone will come up with App like pandora for it soon.

Kinda and kinda not. I'm not sure, I support people's decisions to use what they tools they want to do their craft, but I would like to also point out what tools of convenience leads too. Convenience is a double edged sword. Making the craft of DJing convenient allows an easier entrance to the DJ game from equipment to music. If we keep searching for the most convenient and loose the art form, so will others (clubs, events, people in genteral.) I know a lot of wedding and some club DJ's are already being replaced by Ipods. You know what, I'm not going to Hi-Jack this person's thread. I've already stared a Turntables Forever thread. I will continue there.
I like I said, I wish you well with the NS6.

What is the Artform? I say the Artform is having impeccable taste in music. So too is it, the creativity to blend....knowing when to bring it in, and when to take it out. It's like all these Ableton (for lack of a better term) DJs.....there's no beatmatching involved, and believe me, I've heard more shitty Ableton Jocks than good ones.....why? Because they lack the artistic expression I outlined earlier. I'm sorry, but knowing how to adjust a Pitch Fader, a Spinning Platter, or Needle Dropping aren't the prerequisites for artistic creativity. Mixing is mixing...regardless of the medium.
Bare in mind that I have been mixing on Technics 1200s, then 1210M5Gs for the past 15 years. This is my first stab at automation of any kind. But honestly, I see no difference between the two when it comes to the creative part of DJing, and I guarantee those on the dance floor would agree with me.
An iPod doesn't have years of artistic creativity under it's belt. Nor does it have the experience of knowing the perfect time to engage effects, then take them out. Perhaps w' Pop40 music, there is a threat of software being able to replace the DJ.........I don't know, but w' Underground Dance Music.........NOT A CHANCE!
It's too expressive, it requires a right-brained being to manipulate it.
Agree with me or not, I don't care anymore.

ya there is absolutley no way that software will replace a DJ in a musical genre where almost all tracks are within a few BPMs of each other and designed speciffically to be mixed together. /sarcasm
True story, Sat night im spinning early in the night, the owner comes in says hey then before she walks off goes "OH ya by the way i was gonna ask you about something, i made a major purchase today, i bought an IPAD and the major selling point was that I can use it to dj, think you can show me how that works." I said i didnt know but its apple so im sure there will be a very easy to use button somewhere.

You're such a dick, Bezzle....and wrong to boot!
Where did I say that a DJ is merely an Effects Control Operator? I won't stand for you belittling my comment like that. There is an art to blending...not just matching the tempo, but actually blending two tracks to form one piece of musical expression!
Have you ever heard a DJ engage Effects to the point where they actually sound like they're part of the song? Probably not, if the DJ was playing the latest Pop40 Garbage that the Music Industry tells you is hot at the moment. Pop40 is garbage, and those who play it are trashing the very concept of Expressive Djing.
You want to talk about Dance Music as if it is elementary, well, what is HipPop but a very elementary loop repeated over and over again? You know, I've been on this forum for going on 6 years now, and there is one dividing factor that I don't EVER see changing anytime soon.....Hip.Hop versus Dance Music DJing. You know, I love Hip.Hop, and there are still some DJs that keep the genre relevant. But in recent years there has been an up crop of mediocrity when it comes to producing it. Hip.Hop isn't the dynamic genre it once was...the majority of the tunes out there today are total shit! Still, the same can be said of watered down Electro House garbage...to me they are opposites of the same coin. I guess that's why we've seen the two genres melding together recently.....they're both produced to appeal to the lowest common denominator!
The way I see it, there are two types of DJs: those of us who love Crafting Mixes...Getting Deep into the art of Blending, Phrasing, EQing, etc.., and those who get off playing the latest garbage, content with Matching the Beat, Slamming it Over, Improperly Effecting it, and Repeating this process over and over again throughout the night.
I'll admit to changing one admission from my previous post.......it is "unlikely" that software will be able to Read a Crowd, Sample Loops on the Fly, or Effect a Break, Buildup, or Breakdown. I changed my comment to "unlikely" from "never", because obviously no one can predict the future of Artificial intelligence. Perhaps there will be fully automated machines that can track motion via cameras placed around the dancefloor, where the A.I. will be able to determine whether a song is getting a favorable response or not...but who knows? At this point it's irrelevant.
True musical expression comes from years of dedication; practice, and creativity.
I think it's funny that you didn't even touch upon this comment...probably because (whether you want to admit it or not) you know it to be true ;)

I too used to play Breaks quite a bit back in the day. So what's your opinion on the current state of Breaks? All the producers I used to love, have been watering down their tunes just like The HipPop, & Electro-House producers. Dance Music is in a sad place right now. In the past, I used to want the mainstream to grab onto the Underground, but now that they have, they've brought it it down to such an infantile degree, that I wish it would go deep underground again. I'm sure it will eventually.
Whatever, that was sooo off topic...don't bother answering that if you don't want to.

I used to be hardcore breaks because all the music had soul in it, it was full and thick and well if not over produced. Its kinda like the vinyl vs cd argument where with vinyl you had that warm analog sound that was lost to compressed digital files. I feel when EDM went from the analog studios of some of the great producers, to focusing on every aspiring DJ pirating fruity loops, dling a drum kit, and scouring the net for brandnew hiphop pellas or older dance vocals it went downhill, all of it is sounding the same, it all sounds cheap, digital and soulless, and all of it sounds like it was produced in a hurry to just get the name out there. I knew it was a lost cause when i would go to sites like tommywho records and all the new added tracks where paint by number remixs to whatever hiphop came out that week. When you see the breakbeat remix of the track come out before the release of the original then you know no thoughts being put into giving it life. Its like bounce music in nola, just because you put the triggerman claps over a song dosent make it a bounce classic and kinda like whats happening with dubstep, now you log into any pool to get that weeks new ish and this is what you get
lil wayne - yall still buyin this shit? (single clean)
lil wayne - yall still buyin this shit? (single dirty)
lil wayne - yall still buyin this shit? (accapella)
lil wayne - yall still buyin this shit? (inst)
lil wayne - yall still buyin this shit? (obnoxious dubstep remix)
And what sucks is with breaks, dubstep, house ect there is still great music being made, but since DJs now feel that the only way to leave their nest with DJing is to produce the pool of crap you have to dig through to find the gems is ridiculous. You gotta listen to 200 shitty songs just to get a good filler track.
Production tools are just to damn openly avaliable, before when you had to drop thousands of $$$s for a dope synth your average college dorm jock wasnt gonna run out and cop that unless he had some solid musical knowledge, now every 18 year old with a macbook pro and a drug habbit thinks hes icey.

The one cool thing about breaks though is since the genre never really exploded all of the big named artists ive met have been cool as hell. Though those weren't the artists, nor the sub-genre I necessarily preferred, from my own experience in dealing with them, Doc Roc, Jackal & Hyde, & (most of all) Monk were some seriously cool kats. My town used to be VERY Breakbeat oriented, and we've had just about every major Indie DJ pass through here in the past.
I was more into the Producers/DJs from across the pond, ie; Rennie Pilgrem, Tayo, Koma & Bones, etc.....Labels like TCR, Mob Records, Botchit Breaks, Finger Lickin', etc..

Yo Mr. Basic, was the price high because of the color?? I would most definitely buy one of those if they sold them.
The price was what it was because the case is a custom case. Custom always costs more. I'm sure the black hardware effected the price as well, but the original quote they gave me was $450 for everything...it was $350 plus 50 for the pullout handle and another 50 for the laptop shelf...but then they knocked off $100 because I'm a cool guy :D

I 've been djing for almost 20 years, needless to say im a big turntable fan, that's where it all started for me, entered battles and my sets always included heavy scratchings and occasional juggling and it still does. took me a while but i finally started using cdjs about six years ago along with ssl. im now using controllers more and more for my gigs. bottom line is that, all this talk with turntable forever and music nowadays is crap is nonsense; it may be true to some point but you gotta move on. stop living in the past. The crowd im playing for right now is not the same crowd i was playing for 10-15 years ago. music changes and us djs have to keep an open mind. heck i was a house chicago dj when i started and i hated it when hip hop made a break thru in chicago clubs around early 90's. now i spin multi genre, anything from 70-150 bpms, unless im playing at a specific club. i had a gig this saturday and the event requested old chicago classics which is "my kind of music", it was fun but honestly it got a bit boring after a while. keep an open mind and don't get left behind. i think people get a kick out of seeing me using different gears all the time. on top of that, my life just got easier and my gears got a lot lighter. if i have to bring my own gears, i can assure you it's not going to be 2 12's, they are staying at home. remember it is not what gears you have, but how well you use it.

never exploded?
yes the subgenre of breaks im referring to never really went went mainstream, ie you never saw a britney spears track produced by icey or sharaz being the official tour DJ of jay z.

The one cool thing about breaks though is since the genre never really exploded all of the big named artists ive met have been cool as hell. Ive opened for baby ann, doc roc, 3BBs, sharaz, 303, trashey, kicked it with jackal, hyde, monk, scratch D, and with the exception of trashey and baby anne all of them were easily the coolest and most down to earth people ive ever met.never exploded?

Your not even making any correlations in your points here, yes music changes and yes you have to evolve your musical tastes to keep current and play for diverse crowds but none of that has any factor on the medium you use to present sed music.

No at some point i dont have to move on, just because you made a change dosent mean that every DJ does.

Funny....this is exactly the way I feel about playing mainstream music. If I have to play bullshit Pop40 remixes, I'd rather give up on my pursuit of playing out.
Fortunately, I haven't had to do that yet. I've been able to play out on a weekly basis, staying true to what I love, and am passionate about.
But the day that I am no longer able to secure bookings based on the music I love, is the day I'll retire back to where it all began....my living room ;)

DJing isn't my Profession, it's my hobby that I get paid for...big difference!
I NEVER played TOP40! I started out playing Drum n' Bass....I still play Drum n' Bass, as well as House, Techno, Breaks, TripHop, Indie HipHop, Dubstep, 2Step, and Future Garage. These are the genres that I'm passionate about......if I can't play these out, I would rather play at home.....alone!
I have friends that keep trying to convince me that I should go over to the Dark Side.....they, like you, say you can make sooooo much money doing it. Well, I say......who cares? If I don't have any passion for the music (ie; I HATE IT) then what's the point?

I understand if you hate the music not wanting to play it but going over to the dark side as you refer to it isnt necessarily all bad, you just have to use it for what its worth. For example (what kinda set this conversation in this direction) Im passionate about breaks, electro, house, and to a newer lesser extent dubstep. I live in a state where there is not 1 single EDM dance music venue, its top 40 or rap EOS. You CAN hear these genres late in the night when the DJs are good and drunk but overall its a no go if you want to hear that. So remedey this what we do is have all the working area DJs pool in and we throw our own partys about once a month, the top 40 hell gigs give us the cash to do it and give us a platform to advertise for these partys because a flier\txt\email ect with "Come see the ultra lounges own Dj mbezze and club insanitys DJ krave bla bla bla" will attract more people than "Come check out DJ ill breaks...this is his first time leaving the house in years so use this oppritunity to find out what he looks like". Also playing the top 40 events gets your name to the owners and staff of venues and they are more likley to book a party knowing yuo have a following with another club and that you acutually know what your doing.

I see what your saying, me personally, i can enjoy top 40, i enjoy garbage rap just as I enjoy EDM and all kinds of things, because I love music in general, and even if a dj plays a song i dont like or dont know, im fine with it because i like hearing new ish and even if i dont like it i know ill have one come my wy in a few. Whats soured me on the top 40 experience isnt the music because i can step back and see it for what it is. What sours me on it is the jackasses you have to play for. I DESPISE top 40 crowds because their close minded and display their ignorance with a badge of honor. I 100% completley understand there is a place in the night and in history for a Kei$ha song talkin about getting plastered and shitting yourself because theres some dumb bitch in the crowd whos gonna make the bar $1000 in drinks guys are buyin her and shes gonna end up shitn herself and her friends are gonna laugh at her and a fun times had by all, but it pisses me off when you play 4 tracks like that then mabye sneak in a more house vibey track or something from the "DANCE" (yes its called that for a reason) music genresthey lose their mind as if your personally ruining their night. Its like ok i undertsnad what you like but what you like is the most disposable music on the planet so take 4 deep breathes and realise within 5 to 10 minutes youll get the music the radio told you was ok to listen to.
That and people who listen to some WELL produced music and claim "this sucks" and ask for some lil wayne garbage which sounds like it was made using manatees, pingpong balls, and windows audio recorder, or the people who say they cant dance to dance music and want something undanceable that they wont dance to anyway. The people who dont mind, strike that, WANT to hear 4 songs on repeat all night so they can prove how cool they are by showing their friends that around the 4th time they kinda know some of the words. When you have to play 1 song 4 times a night and your the only person who sees the problem then it can sour yuo on a genre quick.

went to GC yesterday. NS6 feels better than any other controller they had, even better than cdj1000's imo. way better than even the new ones from pioneer. the solid metal wheel spins freely and just felt super under my hand, nice weight to it, second only to a real turntable. The rest are all plastic, and the ns7 like mentioned above is too large. I really wish it would work with ssl, i'd buy it immediately.

yes the subgenre of breaks im referring to never really went went mainstream, ie you never saw a britney spears track produced by icey or sharaz being the official tour DJ of jay z.
are ya sure, i mean those guys were pretty big around 98-05. im not saying britt spears or tour djing, but overall i'm sure they got some pop dj remixes. I can't think of a bigger remix than 'beachball' for icey esp, at that time. He did remixes for groove armada, stanton warriors, i mean, in the UK those names are fairly pop.

Wow a post about the Ns6. I almost forgot what this thread was about. Just to add my 2 cents guys, stay true to yourself. If you are fortunate enough not to have to play anything too mainstream then so be it. Believe it or not there is the occasional gem that blows up. Good music is good music regardless of popularity or genre.
With that being said, ordered my ns6 with odyssey case. Should be here any day now.

Wow..... Its been a while since I checked this thread again and alot of you make some interesting points..... but if you check out my review, you will see what I am talking about a little more. I should be doing a video soon.... but lets see...
For me again, the NS6 is KING over my Technics in terms of portability outside of the Radio Studio or my personal studio. I am no auto sync DJ at heart and yes I prefer the feel of a 12 inch vinyl over a 6 in metal platter.... BUT!!!!! Alot of you don't live where I live. Some of you I noticed are resident DJs to specific clubs. Some of you leave your equipment at clubs....
Alot of these cannot be done where I live.... Here's why.....
1) Your stuff WILL get stolen if you decide to leave it in the club....
2) The amount of space taken up by an NS6 when compared to a single turntable and a mixer is about the same foot print..... but the NS6 is FAR easier to set up and break down compared to the single turntable and mixer combo....
3) NO you CANNOT do the more complicated cuts on an NS6 then on a 12 inch vinly turntable.... My self and 2 dedicated turntablists have tried and it either comes out sloppy or it is just un comfortable attempting.... BUT... this stye of scratching is not what gets you gigs down here where I live...
4) A club in our area will have as many as 8 different DJs sometimes 10 DJs playing in one night. Each DJ drawing a specific crowd..... Thats as many as 8 different set ups and equipments setting up and breaking down..... Space is ALWAYS an issue.... Usually there is enough room for two DJ set ups to be there at a time
I'll post up more in my review. But as of now...... my NS6 is 9/10 and probably will be 10/10 when the new itch 2.0 comes out.

About number 4 if you guys are having so many DJs in one night it would make since for you guys to buddy up and just use 1 or 2 setups....unless you got the kinda people that can only Omar on their setup which is lame in my opinion. All those setups just to play music sounds overkill you guys should be working together if it's like that. You get what I'm saying right

To me It felt like a better VCI. It definitely isnt for me though. If it had moving platters I would definitely consider it. I need a visual cue on the deck as I dont like to stare at the screen when I juggle.

I don't know, the NS7 seemed to get a lot of good reviews from people and I couldn't hold out for the dream of a Rane controller much longer.

I've said same exact thing for years and when I saw the NS6 in person I couldn't believe it was Numark. Amazing piece of gear that blows away anything else in its class currently on the market IMO. Had they not dropped the ball on the metering section and got rid of the silly fake silkcreened 45 adapters on the platters it would be a homerun. Instead I'd say it a solid triple.

Same here. Now that I picked up a NS6 I'm sure Rane will finally introduce one. (FML lol )

I sooooo agree with this.

If they do, I'll sell this thing with the quickness. ITCH is okay, but it's ScratchLIVE that I am most comfortable with!
Though, I don't see Rane ever doing this. Also, I don't think Serato would be down for it at this point in the game. ITCH is their baby now, and a ScratchLIVE Controller would essentially destroy the ITCH line. That's why we need ITCH to mimic ScratchLIVE as much as it can, whilst at the same time adding some of Traktor's features to make it an "absolutely perfect" product.
What could do this.....
Tempo-Sync'd SP-6
FLAC Support
Pitch n' Time type Key Algorithm (better keylock)
Sample Recorder
ScratchLIVE styled Internal Effects
Allowing some features to be MIDI Mappable via 3rd party Controllers (ie; MIDI-Fighter)
"Skip to Splice" feature as outlined here : serato.com
Though I could care less : Bridge & Video Support
