Hey everybody,
I put together a how to video and post to help people setup and use a Kontrol X1 controller with Serato. The setup is difficult, but if you use my files, you can have your controller up and running in a few minutes. I can try to answer your setup questions too.
Here is the link to the article with the how-to video:
nycelectro.com
In that link is a link to my mappings, but...
Here is a direct link for my mappings and template files:
www.mediafire.com
If you follow the "ReadMe_instructions" file, you should be able to get up and running with this controller very quickly.
Let me know if there are any issues, also, share your mappings if you have some great settings.
Hope this is helpful,
Peace

Great video...completely beat me my lazy ass to the punch.
It took me a month to figure out about the relative option in the software...no one
really mentioned that anywhere else!
The bag is WELL WORTH IT.
the only thing I do NOT like about it; its about 3/4 of an inch too wide.
so you end up with this space between your turntable/X-1...its small.
but its there.
The newer model X-1s Also come with a SERATO overlay for the x-1, and the disc is pre-loaded with a default ssl 2.2 mapping file.
or you can go the route I went and for short money get it skinned:
a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net
a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net
I stopped using midi-pipe about a month in.
Once I was comfortable with it, and muscle memory kicked in I didnt need lights
or the skin really anymore....like anything, once you use it enough.
heres something I learned the hard way.
dont plug the x-1 in AFTER you have SSL running, or even replug it.
Im not a usb/midi wizard, but I can tell you this. 8/10 times you will get some
funky behavior if you dont do you start up in the order.
IE, x-1 plugged in, THEN start ssl.
this unit is an amazing option to be used with SSL.
its not as eazy-peazy as the dicers... but it seems more responsive.
the soft rubber of the buttons it very very nice...but they are obviously smaller/
and closer to alot of other things.

Glad you liked the video!
Thanks for the advise on the bag and the plug-in order. Good to know. I will get the bag soon. I have yet to play out with this thing, but I will be this weekend. A fun live test.
Funny thing, I bought the X1 not too long ago, and it should have had the overlays in it, but I guess Guitar Center gave me the older version without. So, I had to do it all the hard way. It took me about 2 days messing with this thing to get it working right. Not easy, but worth it.
A note on the X1's buttons vs the Dicer's buttons. The, I have found are more responsive when you are hitting them fast. The X1's could not really bang out a fast drum roll, but the dicers were flawless. And like you said, the dicer buttons are much bigger. So, any drumming I will do, will be on the Dicers.

Also, how did you get it skinned? Is it just a sticker? Let me know, im curious.

Hey guys, I recently bought the X1 but for the time being i'm on the road and wondered if anyone had any mapping on how to use the X1 as a standalone device. I've seen it done through traktor but really want to use serato. Any help would be massively appreciated.
