i dont see why this thing is so big. i hope theres some technical reason for it (rane / serato mods feel free to explain). it would be FANTASTIC if i could just show up with an sl1.2 that would fit under a technics turntable just like my hard drive does. think maya 44 usb

Good point. I see what you mean. There has to be more to it. Maybe the 1/4", volume pot, power circuits... there's a bit more going on in the SL1 than the Maya44 USB. But it would be nice. I agree.

nah, people have opened it up and theres not much to see in there, lots of empty space.
one guess i had was that they made it big on purpose in their original design so that it wouldnt fit under a turntable. that way when other djs walk by they see the product and have to ask what it is, free product placement. this is what software companies do when they package their cds in a cereal box sized package. its to get your attention and make less room for other markets on the product shelf.
another guess i had as to why it is so big was structural integrity. that size was the best design not to get crushed in a bag with a laptop / hard drive / etc. my answer to that would be to sell a case with it ie: every pair of needles ive bought.

i dont see why a sound card needs to be ford proof? i dont need a sound card that can withstand a 40 foot drop or one that is water proof to 200 feet under water. id rather have a sound card thats practically shaped.

I would like my $539 sound card to withstand a direct hit by a Sidewinder AIM9 missile.

Yikes!! a hard HD that close to a magnet? I don't even put my SL box on top the turntable when setting up... call me crazy, but better safe than sorry on a gig

Your crazy!
A thinner box?
No...... I should be able to drop it 30 feet and have it still work for that amount of money.
