it would be nice to unlock some of the features available when the SSL interface is plugged in, but without the need of the SSL interface.
one such solution would be to have registration on an iLok key to enter a special "edit mode"
when you register your SL1 or 57SL box you register your SSL on the iLok to be used in an "edit mode" that allows us to edit cue/loop points. audio is only produced over 1 stream (not 2) in low-quality (mono, 20,050khz, 8 bit, for example) through the connected soundcard (internal, firewire, whatever) to insure folks don't try to dodge the use of the SL1/57SL to perform. Auto in INT mode is disabled so folks can't use it to just play a playlist.. etc, etc.

except it doesn't need to be in low quality... if it requires iLok and doesn't have any pitching/bend/autoplay etc functionality then there's no reason for low quality audio.
Other than that +1 to iLok edit mode.
