Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Crage suggestions (coloring, grouping, identification)

Hey Everyone,
Here's a shortened version of my other post.. it gets right to the point ;)

Here are some thoughts that I think would improve subcrate usability:

1. Subcrate tracks should be a highlighted with a different color from other tracks in a different subcrate. Assignable colors would be nice, but not essential.

1a. If the subcrates are being displayed in the crate view (not collapsed), the subcrates should be highlighted with the same color as the track highlighting withing the parent crate.

2. Subcrate tracks should be grouped together with the rest of the other tracks contained in the same subcrate.

3. The order of appearance of the subcrate track groupings should mimic the order of the subcrates within the parent crate. I tend to scroll down through the night so it would be nice if I could reorder the subcrates according to the direction I was going with the music.

4. The subcrate track groupings should follow the sort order of the subcrate, not the parent crate. This feature would be neat when you drag a subcrate to another parent crate for a different party, essentially making subcrates "portable".

5. Provide the name of the subcrate as an optional column view.

So yeah, there it is. I think this would be a huge improvement to help with song selection and flow while you're in the mix. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

I like all of your suggestions but I think some of them may be more difficult to implement than others.

Ok.. thought of another cool idea:

6. Allow the user to mark tracks "favorite". Then, have a setting that allows the user to see all subcrate tracks that are marked "favorite".

That would be super cool because you could hang out in the parent crate hopping around all your favorite tracks. But then, let's say you want to dive into a subcrate and dig into that particular style, you just start browsing that subcrate until you're ready to move somewhere else...

I really like the crate colour option!

I've been wanted some sort of user preferences or profile settings for some time now.

This would be nice for other DJ's putting in their external HD's.

I think the coloring would be one of the best features. Then you know exactly what tracks you're using at a glance. Everything just looks the same now...

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but some kind of auto-sub crate facilty would be helpful. What I mean by that is being able to import a folder that has many folders within it and Serato automatically turning these into sub crates because at the moment I have to painstakingly import the folders one by one, unless I am missing something!?!

Also, crate order needs to be addressed, mine don't appear alphabetically, they just load up in random orders, some kind of facility to orgainise crates into alphabetical order would be helpful.

When I import folders it doesn't auto-name them if they are on an external drive, auto-naming from external drives would be helpful.

Also, sometimes I forget to drag my reviewed files into a crate after working out mixes so when I exit Serato it loses this data, I would like Serato to save this data for me so that it is always there or auto-create a crate or similar when it exits in case you forget to do it yourself.

And not really related to crates but effects would be so cool, VST plug-ins or stand alone, it's about time this program had them. I believe M-Audio Torq has it. Also, Serato should take all the best features from Torq etc and replicate them in their software.

Although they're not great quality WMA files should be an option too, in fact all file platforms should be covered in case that facility is needed.

How about a USB controller from Serato that is reasonably priced, not everyone can afford the TT 57 SL!

Hopefully Serato will hear me... :)

Hey Makka,
I'd start a separate thread for your suggestions as they don't fit in this particular thread. That way, they'll have more of a chance of getting noticed ;)

Thanks,
Mike
