Scratch Live and DJM 900Nexus
What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Make Scratch Live compatible with the new DJM 900Nexus from pioneer. Would be so great for so many dj's.

That you are supporting the post above yours or the thread itself...
Like being "me too" :)
I'm pretty sure that the DJM-900 Nexus will not be "SL certified" because Serato earn their money with hardware sales.
So there are 3 options:
1.
Make the Nexus SL-certified and charge extra money from either Pioneer or the users.
2.
Release an SL version of the mixer.
3.
Make the people buy an SL interface.
First one is (imo) impossible to do. How will you charge the ones that got the DJM-900 before it got certified?
Second one will not fix the problem with compatibility if there are two versions of the mixer. How will the club owner decide on each of the versions available?
Third one will give the majority of DVS users (which are with SL or TSP) the option to hook up the software they like (vice versa with the SixtyEight and an NI interface).

Bitch on the Pioneer Forum for a firmware build with support; but first decide how much you would pay for that magic little patch... $700 seems fair

I'm confused about the compatibility issue with the DJM-900 nexus. Are you saying that we wont be able to use Scratch Live with it like you would with any other mixer? Im asking cuz my plan is to put my ttm57sl on the back burner and get the 900 and sl4 when they are available.

You can use ANY DJ mixer with SL 1, SL 3, or SL 4.
But...
If you have a Rane TTM 57SL, Sixty-Eight, or MP 4 you don't need a ScratchLive interface to use ScratchLive.
You just download the software for free (which is also included on the package).
If you have a TS certified mixer (e.g. Denon DN-X1600, Pioneer DJM-900nexus) you don't need a TS interface to use Traktor Scratch.
But you need to purchase a license and time code records for $300.

So license would be bought from rane not taking away from their business? Right? Genious!

think about it why would they want you to buy a pioneer mixer, when they sell a similar mixer.

I hope in the future you could just buy a mixer with a soundcard and then buy a sofware licence to any DVS software being serato, Traktor or whatever others out there. Allowing djs with different softwares for easy changes and back2back playing.

Come on dudes. Is it really that hard to understand the policy differences between Serato & NI?
SL/ITCH:
Runs very well on just a few selected hardware.
You pay only once, get high quality equipment and lifetime free upgrades.
The only way Serato makes money is the selling of compatible hardware.
Traktor (Scratch) Pro:
The non-scratch version runs with every audio interface and hardware.
The DVS runs on hardware that has a license.
Your equipment and sound quality depends on the price/manufacturer. You have to pay for every major software update. NI makes money with almost every new version and/or feature.
In conclusion:
If Serato would open the DJM-900 nexus, DN-X1600 or any other capable mixer...
How would they make any money? Licensing? For already sold mixers? Serial numbers?
What you people want is impossible!
...unless Serato turns into a non-profit organization ;) jk

If you stop an think about it, it's the best business model ever conceived of by a software house.... No piracy, no sales, just big checks from HW manufacturers :-)

The other option is that when you buy serato it comes with the usual serato hardware as well as a USB stick with the software key inside of it. So you are able to use the USB Stick instead of the whole serato box to activate the key for the software. So you can just roll up to a club that has the DJM-900 and instead of bringing along the whole Serato SLbox with you, you just have a small compact USB stick that sits in your laptop while you play. Would make it much easier than having to unplug all the cables in the back of the mixer and that every time you play out.

I've always thought by selling a hardware dongle for a few hundred pounds would be a good option. Maybe £200 but when you actually stop and think about it, the SL2 isn't much more and is a viable option as a stand-alone soundcard, with DVS for only an extra £169. £369 for a world class DVS isn't much at all.
As regarding the piracy issue, software dongles like i-Lok and others aren't foolproof and by not building the sound outputs in the software as configurable, then you'll eliminate most of the worries about piracy... if the function isn't there to re-route the audio then it's pretty useless without adding code. I think this is the main reason it's not gone further.
I'd love to see it happen but just don't think it ever will as the business model works fine. They would sell so many more 'dongles' if they did meaning more money for features in Scratch Live but that will also bring many more problems when someone's Maya/Audio 10/Conectiv/Final Scratch box doesn't work.
Let's just hope they do, but i understand why they won't.

because they have total control of how their product is designed to work from start to finish.

Kinda what i meant by that. By developing everything in-house it's all hardware/software matched, but on the flip to that... ASIO/Core are standards, if software can route audio out via a standard then it will work.
I dare say by unlocking sound output controls will make CDJ900/2000 owners and users happy. I use them and would find it beneficial to be able to just plug in a Rane i-lok style dongle and use the soundcards that are already plumbed into the clubs and not re-routing audio through another box when the ones that are included are just as good.

Unfortunately not. Only Rane's soundcard and mixer products work with Scratch Live.
