2 qsc k10s and/or k8 and 2 prx 718s

Is this a large enough sound system for 250 to 300 people. I know many factors go into how many people this would be loud enough for but i'm just speaking in general. My reason for asking is i also have 2 barely used qsc hpr 122i and i wondering if i should sell them and get another k8 and just use either my set of k8s or k10s as a system for smaller gigs( along with a single sub) and use everything for larger gigs.

i would think a pair of k8s or k10s even with a pair of subs would be a little underpowered for 250. but i tend to overestimate for sound. You can always turn it down if you have too much - you can't really turn it up if you don't have enough...

I think 2 K10's and 2 PRX718's would be adequate for 250 inside. I'd be wary of the K8's trying to accommodate that size of a crowd.

I really value your opinion, i see many of your post in here and djforum.com and you always seem to be on point with your assessment of pro audio equipment.

There wasn't much sound difference when i listened to the k8 & k10, they are both 1000 watts but bigger is always better.

I have both a k8 and a k10 and their is a difference in sound. I've also read your thread about the ksub and you're way off with your assessment. I had the k sub for like 3 weeks and sold it and bought a prx 718s. Night and day the k sub cool, but only good from rounding out a sound system for a wedding or corporate event.

I absolutely agree here. I'm not a fan of the K-sub because if it's bandpass design. I listened to them several times in the past and they just don't give the bass you'll get from a traditional front-loaded design. I will say for weddings and non big-bottom events, they are an excellent choice because of the size, looks and portability factor... no doubt.

As far as the K8 compared to the K10, I think I'd always lean towards the larger K10. I think people are amazed at the great sound you get from such a small enclosure with the K8. The K8 has a wider dispersion (105 degrees), which would be great for spreading the sound around and reaching those side-tables in ballroom reception scenario but the K10's more focused 90 degree pattern would project farther (for the dance floor) and is less likely to bounce sound off of side walls in more narrow rooms... plus, the larger 10" woofer lends to better bass response, period.

Those are hyped up marketing watts. That amp is capable of 1000 watts; however, I believe those drivers only handle so much so the amp power is padded down to accommodate the drivers in the speaker's internal circuitry. For example, I believe the 1.75" horn in the QSC K-series stuff only handles 75 watts rms, yet the marketing hype tells you 500 watts from the amp is for the highs. There are many concert and touring-level speakers whose horns can't handle 500 watts, so how would a prosumer level QSC horn handle it? ... they can't. I don't get too caught up in the watts thing... I pay more attention to things like the speaker's components, sensitivity, efficiency and max SPL... oh yeah... and cost :-)

I have a pair of JBL EON15 G2. Do you guys think a pair of K8 will be comparable or better? Thx!
dj_soo 1:09 AM - 7 February, 2012
you're never going to get the low end from an 8 inch speaker that you would from a 15 inch speaker. I'm willing to bet the k8 will sound clearer - especially for the highs and mids - but you'll need to pair it with some subs to get the low end bumping.

That said, I've always thought those EON G2s sounded like shit - you're better off with the PRX line...

price is high for me.. but thanks man. I appreciate your advice.

my eon g2 10s sound great when they arent pushed for highs & mids. but i must have a sub or else im lacking majorly. got my eye on the qsc line but first i gotta get business back up to more steady level before i put together a full size rig

oh & i say that to say these are small indoor gigs with no more than 75 ppl. im still renting my boys rig for the big boy stuff
skinnyguy 10:03 AM - 7 February, 2012
I did a side by side with my old eon g2s and my new prx 612. I thought the 612s were better. And def easier on the back.
