Probably you have 2 or more USB-ports. If I were you I would leave the SL1-unit connected directly and use an USB-hub for all your other stuff. A hard disk can do without a dedicated bus, maybe a bit slower, but hardly problematic. SL works better when on a dedicated port.

Perhaps you need to use an active USB-port (one with external power supply) if all your stuff together consumes more than 500mA, your USB-port probably will shut down or burn out.
