What about higher resolution timecode on the vinyl? NI's new DVS, Traktor Scratch, has a higher resolution timecode and it seems like a pretty good idea. It would make things like power-downs sound smoother and overall give the software tighter tracking of the vinyl's speed/position.
Is this overkill?

I bought Traktor Scratch and not very impressed with it. The control doesn't seem as stable as Serato but is louder. It's also a pain in the but to find your music. Unlike Serato where you can make your own crates and sub crates. Mp3's play kinda of crakley too. It is nice to be able to record my sets or any guest dj's I have but Serato just feels and reacts the best to me so far

they need to keep improving things like this but if it ain't broke...... still you could sell us turntablist new control viynls
