Playing from CDs in Itch

Just a word of advice from what happened to me this weekend. If you ever get handed any CDs to play for a show or act make sure you DO NOT use Itch to load it. I was handed the CDs and didn't have time to copy it to the hard drive so I figured I would just drag it into ITCH. Unfortunately ITCH was trying to analyze the files (AIFF files) and randomly it would drop the audio for 4-5 seconds. Happened about 5 times in 3 tracks. The dancers just kept on trucking but it did add some ackwards gaps in the music. Fortunately there was a recess halfway through and I switched my Mac's sound to play through my NS7 and I opened up Itunes and we finished out the act flawlessly
In summary, ITCH is not friendly to playing from CDs on the fly, use Itunes instead and keep ITCH in the background for the recess/breaks.

I haven't had that problem yet, but I'm sure I would because my cpu is underspec. But I did have a problem with my controller not responding to the library related buttons. Luckily this happened right before a gig when I was testin it out. It would have been bad since I had to shut itch down. Haven't been able to reproduce it so haven't filled a report. I probably won't able to because I don't think I ever want to play cds on itch again.

How do you switch your mac`s sound to the v7? I always end up with this problem and tell my clients that I refuse to play cds for this occasion (ofcourse I dont let them know the reason)

If OSX recognizes it as a soundcard you should see it in the Sound menu and you can click on it to switch it as your main soundcard. From then on whenever you connect that V7 it will take over your main sound. This all hinges on OSX recognizing the V7 as a soundcard.

Actually the issue did not seem to be cpu related as mine was only using 50% of it. Seems more to due with it trying to analyze/read the cd file and playing it at the same time. More like there isn't enough buffering.

So this will give a better performance when it comes to inserting a cd?

No. This is simply to allow ALL system sounds to output to the NS7 and in turn your PA. you can then use Itunes to play the CD instead of itch. Just b careful not to run any undesired sounds and turn osx beep sounds off etc.

i've never had a problem with this and i do get a lot of artists that come up the stage to hand me over their instrumentals on cd when they are going to perform. I even play the tracks while its still building the waveform overview and got no issues at all, you can backspin, scratch and still no dropouts.
Dont know maybe im just 1 in a million.
