anyone try switching out the buttons?

marx 10:36 PM - 10 October, 2010
I'm not fond of the hard buttons on the 68. The buttons on that ableton midi contoller look soft and the same size as the buttons on the 68. Does anyone have one to confirm size and feel?
Res-Q 10:50 PM - 10 October, 2010
I wouldnt mod the 68 for so many reasons. But the main one is dicers are 100 bucks, so it's not worth the trouble imo.
nik39 12:49 AM - 11 October, 2010
marx, it's very difficult to change the buttons... The PCB which holds the buttons is mounted to the top panel. Headaches.
marx 2:00 AM - 11 October, 2010
havent looked at it, but thanks saves me time from looking.

I have a pair of dicers :-) It would be dope if they came out with a reverse pair. I also like making my loops manually, weird huh.

You can assign the functions to your needs, you know that, right? :)

BTW, this might help you in case you want to use your own mapped functions:
www.serato.com <- click.
marx 2:21 AM - 11 October, 2010
tru but its either or, so i have to assign all of them :-)

also I just learned when you use midi (like the 800) the denon controller flips out when you hit the loop roll button.

REVERSE

so the layout is mirrored. this way you can throw them on another flat surface & they will have the same button layout if that makes any sense. Imma pick mofo.

That's not correct. You can assign whichever button you want to (from the two assignable groups).

You mean you are using the Denon 800 with SL and the dicers and as soon as you hit loop roll the cd players freak out?
marx 5:30 AM - 11 October, 2010
really, so i can have group one & two set to default, then make group three manual looping? if so i had no fkin clue.

DJM-800 w/midi (mainly for vsl) when I hit loop rool on either the dicer or the denon both controllers become inactive. I just started using the 800 last week but it was pissing me off when I was trying to record a mix. Once I unplugged the Denon the problem went away (this is after a hour of messing with it rebooting etc). First I thought it was because I upgraded to 2.1.1 but after trying 2.0 the same thing happened. I never noticed it before because I was using either the 57 or 68 so my conclusion is midi. I don't have another midi board to test it on but its either that or the Innofader (which I seriously doubt).
Henry GQ 3:06 AM - 12 October, 2010
haha i was thinkin about sending my rane 68 to ean golden to see if he can switch out the buttons. seems liek those guys know whats up...
s3kn0tr0n1c 7:17 AM - 12 October, 2010
why not put rubber foam on the top off the buttons?? you can buy adhesive rubber

fuk opening it and voiding warrenty etc........
Henry GQ 7:58 AM - 12 October, 2010
i think its the way the button clicks as well as the softer pads that everyone has become accustomed to...
Res-Q 12:45 PM - 12 October, 2010
just buy some dicers, case closed
marx 2:08 PM - 12 October, 2010
Not closed when u have a 2500 board. I'm selling mine.

I figured out the midi ish, the cable to the denon was bad (brand new) so that's good.
Marine 5:53 PM - 12 October, 2010
I sold my sixty eight I got the djm 2000 and love it. Taking a little getting use to because I'm use to the Pioneer 800 but this 2000 is built like a 2600 dollar mixer. I do still have my ttm 57's and also like using them a lot.
Henry GQ 11:08 PM - 12 October, 2010
i think everything with the mixer will be resolved in time. but how much longer ? i dont know.. they are too concerned with the bridge.it seems

but i think were screwed with the buttons.
it would be nice if they knew that the buttons would break easily... that they would implement a way for "users" to remove them like a crossfader would be removed. that way the buttons or the contacts break. u would just unscrew the the plate. and replace.

anyways.. waiting. impatiently. i think were gonna see alot of these things on ebay soon :(

You can customize group 2+3. (the group buttons act as a toggle/shift button).
marx 11:33 PM - 12 October, 2010
for me its the buttons :-(

just a deal breaker.
Henry GQ 12:00 AM - 13 October, 2010
wow isnt that sad. that the buttons are a deal breaker on a mixer..

u would think that rane would get the pciture and correct this problem. do a recall like toyota before its too late.
marx 2:00 AM - 13 October, 2010
It's dreadful, I luv serato, rane makes grade a quality stuff, its just bad design.

The den on controller a+, diced a+. With those buttons this mixer would have a chance. I would have never thought I would be using a 800 (only because of the innofader)
DJMark 2:19 AM - 13 October, 2010
As I pointed out elsewhere, I believe the 68 buttons were chosen with long-term reliability as the most important factor.

I also like those Denon controller buttons, but my second sample of that unit is starting to develop intermittent behavior on some of the most-used buttons. (Much worse: due to the design of that unit, it seems *really* difficult to get opened up to the point where one could even try spraying Cailube into the actual switches that are under those soft pads).

Better to be dealing with that on a fairly inexpensive MIDI controller than on a $2500 mixer that might be part of a club's installation.
marx 3:09 AM - 13 October, 2010
Verry true.if its a problem the mixer should have an area for external controllers. These units can plug directly into the board, and if they go bad they van be replaced. Or use the fader mindset, the 68 is designed so the fader system can come out as a whole.

We need dicers pt2, just a skinny long strip.
Henry GQ 3:20 AM - 13 October, 2010
yeah. i wish i knew someone that designed mixer. just give that person a sketch of what i want. and away we go. make it more like a 2 channel mixer with a lot of buttons on the side liek the 68
marx 3:46 AM - 13 October, 2010
The 67. That was my train of thought, but after mapping my 800 to ME, 4 channel baby. One channel for main effects and one channel for transitions. Yup

Yep that would have been a good idea. Actually I'd love to see more DJ mixers (for installation) built like professional mixing/broadcast consoles...with individually-removable channel "strips" that could be replaced without shutting the mixer off. A spare "strip" or two could take care of emergencies like an EQ knob breaking, for example. Similar replaceable "strips" for the button controllers, mic and output stages.

But such a mixer designed that way would be a lot more expensive than the 68, or most any other DJ mixer. It would be going up against the "flashy but cheap and shoddy" trend of most other DJ mixers built in the last 10 years (Pioneer being the obvious such example).

Just sayin

Haven't looked in this forum for a few days.

It's worth a mention that no matter how qualified the source, any advice about a sound-system installation is of very limited value if it's coming from someone not on-site and therefore not able to weigh all the various parameters.

Wow, this is not the first time you are calling names (in this thread). Is that really necessary? It makes you look like you are running of arguments.

Henry GQ ,

Once again you're demonstrating that you're incapable of responding appropriately when you read a comment that you don't like.

It's not the first time and I'm getting sick of it.

Pull your head in or I'll kick you out.
Henry GQ 3:19 AM - 19 October, 2010
ChrisD. its just stupid for him(mastermind) to voice his opinion when it doesnt matter. its just as rude as me saying what i said. think about this for a minute(seriously) so i would like u to say the same to him.. hes demonstrating in-appropriate behaviors as well. just not using a swear word. same lack of respect.

i guess im just too proud to let some guy just roll in and take a cheap shot. u do that in real life and u get knocked out...

say bromance to me in real.

once again my apologies u and other forum people. but not him... hes just disrespecting this forum in another way... and i hope ur not too blind to see it.
mastermind 6:05 AM - 19 October, 2010
Henry, its all in fun and games. I did not take it personal and nether should you. Just let it go. You have been around long enough to know the folks in here.
Henry GQ 10:29 PM - 21 October, 2010
i know what ur saying. but theres no room for ur reply in regard to my comment. its childish. people take offense to stuff all the time(just as i have). u dont even know me.. u dont even know me as just internet friend. so why say anything?

u think ur gonna gain respect or friends by saying something funny? i dont get it.
