First all-Serato recording! Something I want to hand out to some bars, clubs, and promoters. Any thoughts are appreciated. I already know that certain blends could be better and that I put two songs with Snoop Dogg on them back to back, but I figured I could get some feedback now and just re-mix it once more.
Apparently, track lists are big here, so here goes:
1. Beautiful Liar - Beyonce Feat. Shakira
2. Sexy Lady - Yung Berg
3. I Just Wanna Know - Taio Cruz <-- I'll probably cut this one out for the final mix
4. You - Lloyd Feat. Lil Wayne
5. On The Hotline - Pretty Ricky
6. Grey Goose - Bangloose
7. I'm Not a Criminal Remix - Chamillionaire Feat. Snoop Dogg
8. I Wanna Luv U - Akon Feat. Snoop Dogg
U Wanna Touch Me (Akon Remix) - Nivea Feat. Rasheeda (will actually combine with #8 as one track)
9. Put It Down - Redman
10. This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race Remix - Fall Out Boy Feat. Kanye West
11. Show Me What You Got - Jay-Z
12. Na Na (The Yummy Song) - Baby Bash
13. Because of You - Ne-Yo
14. Stuck With You - Lil Rob
15. Give It To Me - Timbaland Feat. Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake
Thanks for listening!

Megaupload sucks. Took me almost 45 mins to download it this morning.
I'm down to #10 and so far it's pretty good. I'm not feeling the Fall Out Boy song on its own merits, so I'll let it slide as part of the mix. :-) Now you just need to add air horns and scream your name ever 5 minutes and you'll be ready for the big time.
Good work!

Thanks!
I think instead of air horns, I'll just drop out the music and throw out a Jim Jones "BALLIN'!!!" sample at the beginning of every song. I hear that's what's in now.
Uploading to rapidshare now . . .

yeah sounds like the flanger effect then echoed. i been using that effect recently.

Alas, I do not own an effects box. An EFX-1000 would be nice, but this was made with the TTM-57, so it's just filter and echo.

Oh, and the flanges came from using instant doubles. I just used echo to take one channel out.

A few comments (you asked for some feedback):
Some parts of the recordings are noticebly clipping, so you need to reduce the gain somewhere along.
The transition from 3 -> 4 is not very nice, that's because of the very dominant strings in both songs which are not easy to mix with and easily clash.
Also with the transitions you use a lot of efx. While I am tempted to use the efx a lot too (esp. the echo effect makes me lazy ;) ) this is not good and makes listening a little boring, at least for me as a DJ :)
I am not sure exactly if you're trying to give your mix a certain profile. Is this supposed to be a tape made for clubs which you want to pass to promoters or some bar/lounge kind of gigs you are heading for? For a club tape the music is not banging enough I assume (at least it would not work for clubs here).
At 30:15 there is a little skip. Maybe due to a USB dropout?
Else than then taken as a commercial tape I liked the music for the most part.
Side-note: K-otik as you seem to be familiar with the filter effect on the TTM57, wouldnt you like to write a how-to for the Scratch LIVE user wiki?

Hm you find this riciculous? I found it ridiculous when my DJ colleage was able to hear whether I have pushed in Cubase an audio-part 40samples (thats like 1ms!) back/forth. ;)

Now that I think of it I am not sure whehter it was 40 samples or one Cubase 'tick', but it was so small that I couldn't believe he actually was able to notice it.

Thanks for the insights. I started using SSL in January, so I'm still getting used to everything.
I did notice the clipping as well; I tried to set each song's gain to just barely hit the first yellow meter at its loudest, but sh*t happens, hahaha. Besides, this is a demo and I don't have any drops or anything, so if the quality is a little bad, it can't be used for anything other than gauging the performance itself.
I agree with the transition comment, Nik. When I hit the filter, it kinda filtered "too much" and may be a little to harsh, but hey it faded out nice! But I think I'm going to replace #3 with another song anyway; it kinda sticks out vibe-wise.
As far as effects, yeah I pretty much used effects everywhere, but that's because I just got the TTM 57 too and made a conscious effort to really try to learn and use them. Probably a few too many filter-out transitions, I agree. But filtering out allows me to switch up to the next track a lot faster, which was a goal I had - I didn't want to have really long breaks without vocals.
I noticed the skip, too - I'm pretty sure it's a dropout. I'm at 7 on the buffer and it still has dropouts. Gotta work on that - damn pc's.
This is the first mix on a demo I want to pass out to some bars/clubs and promoters I know. The second one I'm working on is 120-135 bpm and will probably have more energy. I guess the overall goal I have is to showcase song selection and crowd/energy control while keeping the music current (at or ahead of the curve). The one I'm working on now has more "creative" blends, too. I think the "bangnicity" of this one builds as it goes along, but there are moments where it does drop off.
Thanks for the feedback! Another mix coming up in a few days!

I give you a big ups fror mimicking the Pioneer effects then. Seriously, I have played with the effects, but never got anything that masterful to happen. That being said, knowing the time it must have took to get to them to that level, you must be proud of them, you use the shit out of them. I personally hate effect mixes, to me it's just like back spinning and bailing out moments into a near miss F'up. Show case your mixing abilities not the mixer or processor, use skills not effects. Also a couple blends seemed harsh, some EQ'ing would greatly help..
If your plans are to pass this out - ADD DROPS!!!! - get all the credit you can. And seeing that you are an Cali Cat. Good luck to you.

Yeah, the Fall Out Boy/Jay-Z blend doesn't sound so good the more I listen to it. I don't know if I could cut enough treble to ix it though - the Jay-Z song is pretty treble-heavy.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get drops made? I wouldn't want to do them in my own voice - no one likes the sound of their own recorded voice :)
