Like 30 seconds to a minute. Do it at home. Not during a gig. Did that and it cut off all my music. But it was during some lame ass rappers performance. :)

install SSL 2.0: www.serato.com
Once you have that version installed, open it up with the mixer attached. It should go into a "reboot" mode and you will see a progress bar on the screen. Once that updates the red lights should turn off. If the firmwear is still the old version you can update it using the 2.0 version

If you are in the same boat as I; it won't matter once you have applied the new firmware. The 57 just hangs upon boot-up, the B3 light gets lit and then it halts.
It actually boots to a normal state about 1 out of every 10 times you power it on. But then once it boots it works.
Serato support had me install the beta/Bridge 2.1.1 version and do the firmware update from that, it appeared to help but for now we are just not power-cycling the mixer ( club install ).
It's been a nightmare. No matter what, it will say 3.20 even after all these patches.

Can the mixer be updated when it's unplugged from the USB???? It's gotta be plugged in to the USB.

This firmware can potentially be a huge issue. I experienced the red lights (kills) with all 6 lit up and my TTM57 mixer totally hung-up (and useless) after clicking on the update firmware button under setup menu. This was from 2.1.0 (build 21057) on i7 MacbookPro with Dicer and LPD8 as my Midi extras. Turning the mixer on and off several times along with starting up my computer didn't help. You would think that even just powering down the mixer and starting it up would enable you to use it analog style/the traditional way (without SSL and a laptop) would be possible but it turns out that YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FIRMWARE PROCESS IN ORDER FOR THE TTM57 TO FULLY FUNCTION! I MEAN, THE MIXER WAS TOTALLY HUNG-UP. ONLY THE LIGHT FOR THE MIC SWITCH WAS WORKING. I EVEN TRIED TO PLAY A NORMAL RECORD AND THERE WAS NO AUDIO!!
The solution that I'm about to tell you might shock you!!: After updating to the latest public version 2.1.1 (build 21122) and plugging the USB direct into my MacbookPro, Scratchlive did not pickup the signal from TTM thus not registering the mixer!. I unplugged and replugged and still no luck. AFTER WIGGLING THE USB CONNECTION POINT AT THE MIXER END (NEXT TO THE BLUE LIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE TTM) FINALLY THE SCREEN DETECTED THE MIXER AND I SAW THE BAR SAYING UPDATING FIRMWARE!!.. I IMMEDIATELY FROZE MY HAND IN THAT POSITION TO ENSURE THE CONNECTION WOULD REMAIN SOLID!! IT FINALLY MADE IT. RELIEF!!
This tells me that the new TTM (with the red outlines - summer 2010 models) potentially have a weak USB port slot and that perhaps other known issues (such as left deck no audio) may be due to something in the hardware!!.. I'm a little scared for this as I'm sure lots of DJ's love their TTM's an many others are looking to invest.
Rane/Serato, regardless of the firmware, the mixer should be able to work at least in the traditional manner regardless if the "firmware update" was successful or not. In my case it was the USB connection but anything that renders the mixer totally useless can potentially harm your reputation! This goes towards minus points for sure!

I would update to the latest ScratchLive (version 2.1.1 build 21122 and also the firmware (should be 3.20 as of Nov2010)) but I don't think its Serato as it is more of Apple!. The new MacbookPro's have default settings for power conservation so check your "System Preferences"> Automatically adjust brightness and ambient changes> and uncheck that!. Anyhow, this issue seems strange as I have not experienced this but do have the capacity to test it out as I also have an older Macbook..

I would recommend you to send Serato an email regarding this issue. I'm uncertain if its a hardware or a software problem. Perhaps check all of your effects to see if they might be defaulted to the "on" position (Group 6 on the TTM) or perhaps if you've got Midi's plugged in - but then again all effects should default to off or empty on all slots. Also, I'd swap miniport adaptors (could it be the cable), check your settings within the setup menu of your VideoSL, but really, this issue seems suspeciously like a hardware issue perhaps with the computer (drivers, minport output,.etc).
Back to the firmware issues for the others, this is what Serato support wrote on solving the TTM57 frimware lockups:
.."I would suggest downgrading to version 1.9.2 and try updating the firmware using that version.
You can find all older versions of SSL here --> Serato.com.
Once you've downgraded to 1.9.2 open SSL with your TTM57 turned OFF.
At that point hold down the two hi kill buttons on the mixer as you turn it on. Keep pressing the two hi kills until you see
the update firmware bar going across the screen.
That should get the firmware installed.
If not, I would suggest trying the same instructions only use a different computer."..

I'm trying to unistall firmware. I didn't know what it was when i made the install and now it is keeping me from being able to change my setting from line to phono. I am stuck on LINE on my AUX and my right deck which is keeping me from getting full simulation. Does anyone any kind of solution so I can get my settings back to phono.

Check your flip switches (the little white switches, 4 of them and make sure you flip them to phono.) When looking at the mixer from the rear, it should be in the down position).. Also check your internal scratch live settings from control discs to vinyl.. I can't think of anything else except to make sure you're installing the latest firmware.. while installing, keep your USB cable firmly attached and wait until everything is finished... I would not go back to V 1.9.2 as suggested by Serato Support from my previous post..

It sounds like you're using an SL3, correct?
