I have a REALLY old 120 GB Maxtor that still works. I also have a 300 GB Maxtor that isn't that old which is fine as well.
I just picked up the Western Digital My Book World 1 TB which has 2 500 GB drives in it. I use a RAID 1 config so the drives are mirrored (instant backup), but it only gives me 500 GB of storage (I think it's worth it).

I wouldn't use those to gig with. I prefer a USB powered drive for gigging and I leave the big boys at home. To each his own...

I use a Maxtor. I manually add music to it and dont bother with any of the automatic updating software.
I think people have run into problems when they try to use the software addons such as "one touch".

no no! thts not wat i meant.....see man i got a 40gb folder which i got off my frend ages ago..in tht there r loads of tracks tht even i dnt knw about...and people when they request songs its in there...i knw where my stuffs lies...
the point is: the tracks from my first hdd will nto be detected by itunes becoz its switched off....but i have made playlist n stuff so tht wont work either...so how do i get itunes to detect my new hdd so tht i dnt need to add anything new on it..then it will become two copies of the same thing...
