Do Smart Crates Eat CPU?

al83 7:57 PM - 5 September, 2010
Just wondering as I have some 25+ fairly complex smart crates whether I'm overloading my poor old 2006 Macbook Pro!

?
the_black_one 8:28 PM - 5 September, 2010
Is your computer getting hot ?
al83 8:41 PM - 5 September, 2010
no more hotter than an average macbook pro of that generation, just thinking with all the fx i'm using in 2.1 as well that perhaps having that many smart crates isn't a good idea?
the_black_one 8:50 PM - 5 September, 2010
I don't think smart crates can make your computer run harder.

True. The only time when smart crates should be running after initial start up is : if you add new music since starting up and if you edit your tags in ssl..
al83 9:35 PM - 5 September, 2010
ah cool, just trying to figure out why my library is taking 4/5 minutes to load up, thought it was the smart crates....
RogerRabbit 9:38 PM - 5 September, 2010
4-5 mins.. damm..
What version are you using?

Have you tried deleting the playlist history?
the_black_one 9:41 PM - 5 September, 2010
Erase your history . That help me on the past
al83 7:23 AM - 6 September, 2010
you mean the history function? i'll give it a go later tonight. i'm using a firewire external so I guess it takes longer to load music that way, that and my 800+ crates lol

Yep I was gonna say that - clear your History - shouldn't take that long to load.

800+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
damn ok i dont feel so bad about mine now!

lol
al83 8:07 PM - 6 September, 2010
yeah! its probably more to be fair. my scratch live folder on my external is around a 120mb! i've kept a record of every set i've played since early 2005, all catalogued under year, month and venue using sub crates - not a fan of the history feature. i also do the same for my prep crates, over time it does build up, but i can't delete it since i use it for reference!
al83 8:59 PM - 6 September, 2010
ok just deleted the history and a load of unnecessary crates, got the load time to just under 4 minutes now, still slow... :(
djchrischip 9:30 PM - 6 September, 2010
if u have 800 crates ur askin 4 a rough load up time
JayB1200 5:53 PM - 8 September, 2010
what the hell you need 800 crates for homie....?
al83 7:46 PM - 8 September, 2010
history of past gigs & prep crates from the last 5 years mostly!

I do the exact same thing...
al83 7:39 PM - 9 September, 2010
only solution is to upgrade the macbook!! lol
CMOS 8:54 PM - 9 September, 2010
You could move those .crate files out of the CRATES folder so that all 900 dont load up each time you start serato.

Im pretty sure that would speed up your load times and still let you keep everything, if you wanted to back to one of the crates just drop it back into the CRATES folder.

No?
sacrilicious 8:57 PM - 9 September, 2010
800+ seems excessive. If not, find a better way of archiving your old sets that doesn't make set up time twice as long.
a DJ 11:28 PM - 9 September, 2010
We should be able to export crates as text files with a tracklisting. That's what I thought the playlist feature was gonna do, but that just uploads it for you to some site. I don't wanna upload it I might wanna keep it private. That would be so cool if you could export to a text file
Dj Nyce 11:31 PM - 9 September, 2010
scratchtools can export crates to txt files
ral 12:10 AM - 10 September, 2010
history can export tracklisting
a DJ 12:48 AM - 10 September, 2010
How?
ral 12:58 AM - 10 September, 2010
page 28 in 57 manual

you need to play the tracks in your crate so it will make it to the history
Dj Nyce 2:26 AM - 10 September, 2010
you shouldn't have to play songs in crates so that they can show up in history just so that you can export to txt. so if i have a crate with 100 songs am i supposed to hit shift right arrow 100 times?

if you want to export your crates to txt file for what ever reason without pressing shift right arrow 100 times use scratchtools.

a DJ 3:56 AM - 10 September, 2010
Oh yeah I forgot about that, Thanks. I probably only need to use history anyway.

Did it hurt you to type that message because you had to hit 353 keys and click a mouse to complain about having to hit shift <- 100 times
Dj Nyce 9:00 PM - 10 September, 2010
it did. computers should just read my thoughts and type for me.
a DJ 11:32 PM - 10 September, 2010
Haha he got you there though lol. M Bezzle you should be a lawyer keep doing what you do just be make more money doing it

+1 saves as text or a CSV file for spreadseets or excel - look in history > export i think.

You talking about the loading time of leopard or ssl, because 2 minutes is still a long time for scratch live to load up..
al83 10:38 AM - 14 October, 2010
ssl, trust me 2 mins for MY libraby is fast!! lol
RogerRabbit 1:29 PM - 14 October, 2010
You need to tweak it, so it's under 20 secs, what if you're playing out and you have a crash - it's gonna take you 2 minutes to get the music restarted...
al83 4:48 PM - 14 October, 2010
there's no tweaking 1000+ crates on a 2006 macbook pro! 2 mins is the best i'm gonna get. getting a new MBP next year so it'll come down to seconds then.

if it crashes i go cd
Dj-M.Bezzle 5:40 PM - 14 October, 2010
you have 1000+ crates............good lord man why?!?!
