Ive been recording my wax to computer with my maudio soundcard on to my laptop into cooledit, audacity and gave acid ago, and I cant get it loud enough to match the other tracks on my laptop from cd without them peaking. So basically my recordings are coming out to quiet, and if i turn it u when recording they peak.

I used cooledit before.. way back when..
I remember I would rip my vinyl into the cooledit program and make sure nothing was peaking.
- then, I would use the 'hard limiter' on the recording to boost the volume on the waveform..(i think 'hard limiter' is under the 'effects' selection somewhere under the 'edit' option on the toolbar.
- then 'save selection' to 'wav' file.
- then encode 'wav' file to a 320k CBR 'quality 0' mp3 using 'razorlame'.
- then run mp3gain on the file to 94dB.
