I know this is a dumb question but last time i jumped on a plane was pre 9/11. Im going on vacation wit the fams and wanted to know if bringing my laptop along will be a hassle at the security checkpoint? As much as possible I do not want to check it in.

No real hassle. It has to go through in its own bin, that's about it. I've flown about 15 times in the past 6 months and never once had a problem.

it's no prob. i've flown tons of times with mine. you just remove it from the bag and put it in a bin in clear sight. they scan it, and you continue with your day.

I hear putting your HD through the scanner can format the drive. Just be careful....

Worst case scenario they'll make you turn it on. Be sure to charge your battery before you leave the house...

Just went to the Philippines with my 12" Powerbook G4.
No problems, sometimes they'll just have you take it out and turn it on, no biggie.
I'd get a new battery if your planning to work on something when your in flight, that way you'll have a spare.
Have a safe trip!
