Aluminum welded square or triangular truss isn't cheap, but it's professional grade.
The more 'affordable' pot metal, one dimensional truss with stands are still ok...

I am well aware of google ninos but my question was what is a good affordable one? Not where to look for one. I have googled it but was wondering what ones are good and affordable from different peoples experiences with them.
Thanks O.B.1 for the info!

I was lookin at those but was tryin to get away from the stands to avoid the large area they take up.

I have the set like the one mentioned by Berto and use one T stand for small gigs.
How do you plan to make your truss go up without stands? The 10' truss is in 5' sections so you could do a 5' truss or just T bars.

If you're gonna buy American DJ, then get the Dura Truss. At $349, it may or may not be "affordable", but it is crank-up and the trussing is trianglular.
If you're looking for trussing like a vertical light stand, it tends to be on the more expensive end.

I was Hoping the ones with the truss that goes up the sides and across the top. The tripod stands just have such a big radius that they take up. To be honest I am not quite sure how the style I am looking into is supported.

Most of those I believe have the large square flat base they come up from on each side.

I have a square truss with cans from which I hang my other effects. It has been extraordinarily durable, lasting me almost ten years now and still going strong.

Not sure of the exact brand. I bought it from a local lighting company, with the cans secured inside. I can get in touch with them to try to get those details or at the very least get out the tape measure and let you know what the dimensions of it are later today if you like.

Also, I spent somewhere in the area of $500 for the truss and cans back in 2001. However...

That is right on. The welded truss will serve you well.

If you're looking for trussing like a vertical light stand, it tends to be on the more expensive end.
Look here as a resource: www.123dj.com
Crank-up is a good option, so much easier (and safer) to raise up. 300lb Capacity is nice too (the crank is almost a necessity if you're putting up anything close to that). It is also good to have if you end up adding more lighting to your set-up later on.
