Did you get a deal when you bought your mac?

gars 12:27 AM - 7 March, 2007
I'm about to buy and have been in the mac store a bit trying to wear them down but the bastards don't seem too keen on lowering prices or throwing in extras. I will already be getting the student discount too so they aren't about to throw in more.

If you bought a mac, what did you end up paying/getting?

Most places (guitar center comes to mind) are always willing to throw in some accessories to seal the deal on bigger purchases. Anyone have any inside knowledge on apple's 'deal' policy?

Unlike most consumer electronics, Apple products are usually gonna be the same price on apple.com, Fry's, CompUSA and the Apple store in the mall. The only place you're gonna get a *deal* is somewhere like guitar center where they throw in extras, or someone who is moving dead stock, refurbs or returned merchandise. Even in the case of those situations, you won't see the b stock *advertised* for those lower prices so I'm not sure how you would find them.

Generally, all Apple systems will be *advertised* for the same price.

Unless you got rich ass friends there arent many discounts you can get on Macs. Best bet is to find find someone that is in school that you can get a student discount or someone that can get a corporate discount. I get it through my job which is how I ordered mine.

here's a trick ... if you buy on the apple website you can get into the Student section by putting in any 9 digit number. It basically works on the honor system. I even went to the store with my girlfriends student card and they really didn't care ... very easy to get that student discount.

i got the student discount. i know someone who works at compusa, that's how i got it. i didnt realize it was easier than knowing someone. i also got logic, academic (50% off).

Anybody ever had problems with a refursbished Mac?
questinpa 3:58 PM - 7 March, 2007
I use to work for them and the refurbished items for the most part are a great deal. I was a service tech so i saw a little bit of everything. I would say you are just as good buyn ga referb as a new one. It has the same exact warranty and you can get apple care on it to extend it for 3 years. Just go to the apple site go to the store and in the lower left there is a red save tag then select the computers and see what they have. What everybody said about the Edu site is 100% true. Now the other deal is if u can find somebody that works ther they can get you 15% off of a new machine but you cant return it. If they are really nice to you you can use their 25% discount, but you didnt hear this from me :-) If you have any questions PM me

if you want extras... look at places like www.clubmac.com, www.owc.com, www.macconnection.com, www.macmall.com, they all normalmy throw in cool extras.. but alot of times ou have to pay for the extras first then send in a rebate for the price of the extra.
