How I Got Dissed-iPOD Style

Friday night at my weekly gig spot we had a band there playing cover songs of Old school funk,Cumbia,Etc.1st off they took up the whole stage area where I set my turntables up and therefore left me without space to plug into the venue sound system. So I had to set up elsewhere and had to bring my powered speakers in.I got paid a little more for this so it was cool.Unfortunaltly though one of my speakers amps gave out for some reason and so I had to work with one speaker the rest of the night but still all was cool.I had the dancefloor packed.
Any way at the end of the night the main guy from the band comes up to me and says "That was fu**ed up man, that you played 10 more minutes than you were supposed to.We gotta get outta here cause we're from far away".I told him that the promoter (my friend) who was paying both him and myself asked me to play a couple of last songs so I gotta do what I gotta do.What does me playing songs have to do with him leaving?
The guy goes to find my friend and is talking sh** about me saying that my system sucked why did we need a DJ and that he could have just ran an ipod to play music. My boy was like "I've never had any DJ's spin for me using that sh**.We had a problem with the speaker but My DJ still had the floor packed and you had no one out there".The guy was all pissed saying "This is the last time I play here".My boy said:"THis is the last time I want you here"Heres your $$$,now get the fu** out of here"
Ive had bands hate before but never used an ipod to diss.Ive always said that music is my biggest insecrity and my biggest confindence so this had me trippin for a minute.
Either 1:He was right that I sucked dispite having everybody packed on the floor, having every song everybody requested, having people randomly giving me props and asking me for my card, meeting other DJ's in the house that were telling me that my mixes were clean and using my 1200's and SSL and not CD players or a fu**ing iPOD.The band did have a pretty nice sound system and one of my speakers gave out.Ill give them that.
or 2:He was just hating on me for the same reasons metioned above.
Technical difficulties will make a DJ look bad regardless of his skill but I guess you gotta just be confident enough to ignore it and stay cool to handle the situation.

Har. At least someone didn't come up to you saying, "Why haven't you been replaced by an iPod yet?"

Let them stare, let them say whatever, all that matters is that you make your client happy and get paid at the end of the night.

Bleh. How much can anyone say (and how much should you really care) if you had the dancefloor packed? Isn't that what a dj is supposed to do? Look at it this way: if you rocked the house with only one speaker, how would it have been with 2? How many dj's sound like sh*t despite having the advantage of tens of thousands of dollars of amps and speakers?
I can't say much because I don't play out often enough, but people sometimes care a little too much about what other people think. If you had the dancefloor rockin, nobody should be able to say anything to you (and if they do, it shouldn't get to you).

It hurts sometimes but put the personal aside and think " strickly bussiness baby". You did your job and had fun. The guy paying you and your crowd liked you. You enjoyed the night even with what "issues" you had. Everyone else can go to hell in a hand basket.

Dude, you had the place going (complete with compliments) on a shitty system, and by the sounds of it outshined them with their big system... they're just mad because nobody wants to go and see bands anymore unless they go to see JUST bands, not a band/DJ combo...back in the day the DJ was the intermission and the band was the main attratcion, the script is now flipped and it sounds like he didn't know his place... fuck 'em.
LOL!
